Hi Alexa please tell us a little about you?
Well, I’m really a typical 10 year old girl! I love my friends and spending time with them. I love music and movies and taking hip hop classes. I’m an only child, so my friends are like sisters to me. I love acting and feel the most comfortable and myself in front of a camera, rather than off camera. I love to laugh and to be silly and I love upside down roller coasters. Sushi is my favorite food and gummy bears!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Kind. Ambitious. Loyal.
Who is your biggest supporter?
I would have to say my mom but thats a hard question to answer. I have so many friends and of course my dad and other family who are always so so supportive and always encourage me and help me pursue my dreams.
I say my mom… because she is always by my side and takes me to auditions and sits on set with me. She always has just the right things to say to me if I’m having a bad day and always gets so excited when something great happens for me in my life or my career. She is also the person who is most like me I think and so she just gets me in a way that nobody else does.
How did you get started in the industry?
As far back as I can remember I wanted to act and dance and perform. I was always begging my mom to take acting classes and to take me to see shows. When I was 7, my mom took me to meet with an agent in Atlanta where we were living. Joy Pervis, my agent in Atlanta saw something in me and signed me, and started sending me on auditions. I started taking acting classes and private coaching in Atlanta. A few months later I booked my very first job!
What was your first acting role?
The first job I ever booked was a commercial. Its was for Icy Hot and I was so excited. I got to set and got into hair and make up and couldn’t wait to get on to the set to see what I would do and say! They put me on a swing with my TV dad pushing me and the camera was behind me! so i didn’t get to act in that because you only saw the back of me but, when I saw it on TV for the first time, I was so excited to see it!
My first acting role, was a guest star role on the NBC show “Constantine”. I played Geraldine Chandler. I got to work with amazingly talented actors and our director was so inspiring. I just knew after that – that being on set is all i wanted to do and where i was happiest.
What is the best and worst part of being an actress?
Thats a great question. I think there aren’t a lot of people who would think there is a “worst” part, you know? But there are ups and downs to it just like anything. If I had to choose something to be the worst part I would say that its life gets so busy sometimes that its hard to see and spend time with family and friends if I am working. But of course, working is a dream come true and i am always so grateful when I do get to work, but if i have to travel to film, I don’t get to see my dad a lot and i start to miss him a lot. My mom and I get used to face timing a lot! 🙂
The best part is that i have met and become close to some of the most amazing and special people in the world. when you work on a movie, the cast becomes family in a way and i have been so blessed that in the work I’ve done I’ve gotten to become close to not just the cast but the directors and producers. Even though you might not see them a lot, you know you will always have this special bond with them and I love that. And how lucky am I that I have this love and passion and I get to pursue it. I don’t take that for granted.
Best advice ever given?
Well, my Dad has this quote from Theodore Roosevelt, “Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.” He always says that to me so that I always remember to dream big and aim high but always stay grounded and stay true to myself in life and I love that. Its just this simple but great reminder.
How did you find out about CBS Films/Lionsgate “Middle School: The Worst Years of my Life”? And tell us about your role as Georgia?
The audition came to me through my agent in LA at the time. I was actually living and working on a different movie in Atlanta when I got the audition. I had to put my audition on tape and send it back to LA. I then met with the Director Steve Carr and producers who flew to Atlanta and not long after found out I was cast as Georgia! One of the best days of my life!
Georgia is such a firecracker and force of nature. She’s spunky and definitely stands up for what she believes in. She can sometimes annoy her big brother Rafe but truly she loves him and protects him and their mom and family is everything to her. She has some interesting habits – for one – she loves to drive cars! And she is obsessed with her pet dog – Calvin who is kind of like a Best bud to her!
What has been your most memorable experience from the set?
Oh wow. There are so many. Every day was an experience that I will remember forever. But if I had to say one that kind of changed me as an actress and even a person – I had a day of filming and it was just me and Griffin (who plays my brother Rafe) on set that day. We were filming a scene that is probably my favorite scene in the movie.
I remember this moment where I forgot Griffin was an actor and felt like he was truly my brother. After one of the takes, it was kind of a blur. I couldn’t even really remember if I had gotten the lines right or did it well because I just got lost in the moment and the character. I learned so much that day on set. My director and I had these great talks when we weren’t filming and we have this little inside secret and joke about that day and I just grew to love him so much more than i already did. The whole day was really special.
What other projects you have been part of?
I am just starting out in this business. This is only my second year pursuing my acting but I’ve been so lucky that in a short amount of time. After “Middle School”, I have a movie coming out in February of 2017 called “Fist Fight” starring Charlie Day, Ice Cube, Tracy Morgan, and Jillian Bell – it’s a hilarious comedy and I am so excited for it. I play Charlie Day’s daughter! I got to work with some of the funniest actors in the business and again – a director who changed my life! Richie Keen the director is also one of the most special directors a person could work with and charlie day tight me more about acting and comedy than anyone I’ve ever met.
Who is your favorite Actor/Actress? And why?
Ahhhhhh….so so many. I mean, really – the list goes on and on! Ok, Let me pick one actor and one actress. I am obsessed with Leonardo DiCaprio. Its my dream to work with him one day. I try to watch as many of his movies as my parents will let me! I’ve seen “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” and “Titanic” more times than I can count. I love “Catch Me If You Can” and “Romeo And Juliet” and I even love to watch episodes he did of “Growing Pains” from years ago!
Favorite actress right now would have to be Anna Kendrick. I love that she can do it all. She can be funny and be dramatic and she can sing. I loved her in “Into The Woods” and I just watched” The Last Five Years”. She just seems to be one of those actresses that transforms into every role in a way I dream of doing one day and she seems like she would be super nice and so fun to hang out with!
3 things you can’t leave your house without?
Phone. Lip Balm. Hair Ties!
What music do you like?
People are always so surprised to hear that I love rap music! Aside form that – right now, I am just loving powerful female singers! I love and listen to Ariana Grande all the time. I love Demi Lovato and Kelly Clarkson. Tori Kelly is amazing. Rachel Platten sings songs that just get you totally pumped! I kinda feel empowered listening to their music!
Your idea of a perfect Sunday is?
Sunday is for sleeping in! Lol! I like to sleep late. My family and I have this place we go to most every Sunday for brunch called “Toast” near West Hollywood. Then I love to go to the beach and sit out in the sun and relax and listen to music or walk around and do some shopping with my friends. I love 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica! Sunday night we try to do dinners with friends and hang out and then I come home and we always do family movie night and grab blankets and get on the couch and watch movies!
How’s a normal day in your life?
Ok, so I am homeschooled – so each day I try to get my school work done first thing so I can get it done and not have to worry about it later in the day. A typical day also typically involves auditions and a lot of times, meetings! I also will get together with my acting coach and work on upcoming auditions or just work on improving and I get to dance class to finish the day so I can let loose and get some exercise! Then, home for dinner and family time.
What was the last book you read?
I just finished book five in the Middle School series called Middle School Ultimate Showdown!
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
I am dreaming of the day I can go to Hawaii. I’ve never been and right now, its my Dream Vacay. I would go with my parents and I would bring my friend Emily with us!!
What is your favorite healthy food?
Sushi. I eat a lot of sushi and its pretty healthy. I actually eat sashimi which is the fish without the rice a lot of the times and that makes me feel healthy!!
And your favorite cheat food?
I love pizza and pasta! Its my favorite cheat meal!
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
Acting of course. I want to continue this journey and keep working and improving and making work I’m really proud of. I would also like to learn a lot about directing. I also dream of directing one day so my dream is to get to continue acting and actually take some time to work on a set with a director and shadow them or be an assistant for the whole shoot so I can see and learn what one does!!
Do you support any charities?
Yes. Charity is actually something that is really important in my family and I learned at a really young age about. My dad is a kidney cancer survivor so we support and donate to the Kidney Cancer Association. I also like to support The Ronald McDonald House and take my own money and donate to that charity.
What do you like to watch on Tv?
I really love talent type shows and competition shows like So You Think You Can Dance. And I love America’s Got Talent. I never miss it! I am also obsessed right now with Master Chef Jr. Those kids are unbelievable! Ellen and Jimmy Fallon are also my favs! My mom tapes them for me and I can watch when I have time. Seeing all the interviews is great but I just love Ellen and Jimmy so much on their own even! They both really inspire me!
