Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
This is a really tough question to answer – but we can easily say the greatest most consistent source of inspiration for us both is our Tone It Up Community. We’re daily influenced and completely inspired by women telling us their stories, and how through Tone It Up and our Community they are happier and healthier. It makes our hearts full and keeps us pushing ourselves personally and professionally.
How and when did you start into fitness?
Karena- I started becoming really interested in fitness because of my dad. Every since I was 11 or 12, we would do triathlons together.
Katrina- I studied fitness and health in college and always was interested in the subject, but I didn’t really start to get into fitness as a lifestyle until I went through my own fitness journey toward the end of college.
What keeps you motivated to keep training hard and eating right?
K+K- Working out and eating lean, clean and green has become a way of life for us now. The days that we fall off the wagon and eat something that isn’t the healthiest, we definitely don’t feel great the next day. It’s those days of feeling off that remind us why we live the way we do.
How did you guys decide to create Tone It Up and whats the feeling of be so successful worldwide?
When we set out to start a business, and to share our love of fitness and friendship with the world – we had no idea Tone It Up would grow into what it is today. It happened for us – we met through a common interest, a love for fitness. We became friends, and now she’s my other half practically – both personally and professionally! Both of our lives have been profoundly changed by Tone It Up. It’s amazing to know this kind of thing is happening for women all over the world, even if only in small part due to Tone It Up!

What is your workout routine these days?
Booty Call every morning! (this is our term for a morning workout). From there it depends on the day – could be a nice run, a class, a workout at home or at the gym / sometimes a combo of a few of these things… the options are limitless! We sweat every day – because we love it!
What is your favorite healthy food?
We both love tons of veggies and lean proteins. No joke!
And your favorite cheat food?
Karena– Spicy buffalo wings!
Katrina– Red wine and dark chocolate, for sure.
What is your best body part?
Karena– Oh, I can answer for Kat! Definitely her BOOTY!
Katrina– The first time I met Karena, I totally girl crushed on her amazing arms.
Any fitness tips you want to share with us?
K+K– Always make sure to keep your core engaged when performing a workout. It helps with balance and proper form while toning your tummy!
In five years from now, where do you see yourself and your career?
K+K– We see ourselves continuing to reach out to more and more women and growing the TIU Team! We also are looking forward to expanding our Perfect Fit, apparel and K+K Beauty products!
Who is your biggest beauty inspiration?
K+K-The beach is our inspiration for everything, but especially for beauty. Sun kissed skin, beachy waves and fresh, bright makeup!
What are your makeup bag staples when traveling?
K+K– You can always find bronzer, lip gloss, mascara and eyeliner in our bags!
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
Karena– Taking the time to workout, do yoga, meditate and hang out with my best friends and Bobby.
Katrina– Walking with my husband and fur-baby (Winston) on the strand with a cup of coffee in hand.
What music we can find in your iPod?
K+K– Beyonce and Adele for days!
Do you support any charity?
We have worked with an organization called Charity Miles. They allow people to put donation value behind their logged miles, with the funds going to the Charity of their choice. Check out their App for more info!
3 things you can’t leave home without?
Karena– Phone, pressed juice and coffee!
Katrina– Phone, sunnies and workout clothes!
