At twenty-two years old, Kara Royster is not only a well-studied actress, but has already appeared on such popular shows as MTV’s “Faking It,” CBS’s “The Mentalist,” FOX’s “Scream Queens” and Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars.” Not content simply to light up the silver screen, Kara has also excelled in an array of fields, including theater, dance, improv, mime and staged combat.
Currently we can also see Kara at Disney Channel’s hit show K.C Undercover along Zendaya.

How did you get into acting?
When I was about five years old my sister needed to practice a monologue for an audition she had. As I watched her I realized, that is what I wanted to do. So as I got older I started taking theater classes and eventually went to BAK middle school of the arts, As well as Dreyfoos High School of the arts where I majoring in theatre.
Is there a dream role that you would like to play?
I think my dream role to play is a heroin in a fantasy-adventure movie. Those are my favorite kinds of movies and I would love to play a part where I could do my own stunts.
How was the support of your family when you decided to become an actress?
My family is my biggest support system, I wouldn’t be where I am without them and couldn’t be more thankful for their encouragment. My parents truly believed in my talent and dedication, so when I asked to move to Los Angeles to pursue my dream, they knew I was very serious and were very on board.
How did you cast for “Pretty Little Liars”?
The casting process for Pretty Little Liars was very quick. I went in for my first audition not knowing who I was going to be paired with. Then a few days later I went and read with Keegan Allen, who plays Toby, in front of Marlene King, which was crazy. After a couple days, I got that amazing call that I got the job!
What is the feeling to be in a very successful tv show?
It’s such an amazing experience being part of such a beloved show. The viewers are really unlike any other, they are so interactive, dedicated to all the characters and are truly trying to solve this mystery . I couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of something like this.
Any funny experience during the casting?
Yes, being a fan of the show I was very interested to find out who’s love interest I was going to play. When I got the call saying I was going to be doing a chemistry read with Keegan Allen I said “Toby?! Why am I reading with him he’s with Spencer…. Uh oh.” I couldn’t believe they were breaking up. Haha
What do you like about your character Yvonne Phillips?
I love Yvonne! I admire how she is sweet even when faced with an awkward situation. With Spencer, she could have easily been a mean girl, but I like that she was written as a likable, strong, mature woman and was even able to befriend her.
Do you have anything in common with your character?
I think we are both very upbeat and like things to be harmonious. I also think we have a very similar style of cool and classic.
Is this the final season of “Pretty Little Liars”?

What you can tell us about this season?
I think this season is going to be filled with twists and turns bigger than we’ve ever seen. Amoji is much more lethal than A was.
What other projects you have been part of?
I’m very excited for everything coming up! I will be be back on “Faking it” on MTV playing Brandi and recurring on Disney Channel’s K.C Undercover as Abby Marting, K.C’s (Zendaya) cousin . I just got done filming “Before You Say I Do” a movie of the week on PixL and the hilarious “coming of age” movie”Mono.”
What’s the best part of acting?
The best part of acting is being able to be in situations, perhaps I’ve never been in, through the eyes of someone else. It thrilling to come on set, explore a character and then at the end of the day go home as myself. Acting has given me the chance to view many different walks of life and experiences, I just find it so exciting.
Best advice ever given?
My mom gives me great advice, she constantly reminds me that everything happens for a reason. She tells me when things don’t work out they way you think they do, it’s just God’s way of making room for the right opportunity.
What do you like to do on your spare time?
In my spare time I love to just spend quality time with my friends and family, weather it be sitting on the couch doing nothing or going out to a fun new restaurant. I also enjoy exercising so I am constanly trying out the latest fitness trends.

Do you like sports? If yes what team do you support?
Yes, my father was in major-league baseball for 18 years and coach and managed after, so I have been a fan of baseball my whole life. I really enjoy going to basketball games and recently discovered a love of hockey which, being a dual citizen of Canada, I should have already known haha. I used to work for the Los Angeles Dodgers, they’re my team!
What hobbies do you have?
I love makeup, it is one of my passions and I have thankfully been able to do it professionally. My other hobbies include attending sports games, exercising and traveling.
What do you like to watch on tv?
I love sitting around and watching reality shows with my mom and sister. We watch all of the housewives shows and pretty much everything on bravo. We are also huge Bachelor fans and always make our predictions of who will win on the first night.
Any advice to new young actors?
My advice is to know that this is a hard business and you will face some adversity, but if you love what you do, all of that rain will become a rainbow.
What do you think of Social Media?
If used appropriately, I think it’s a great way to stay connected. I like sharing a little part of my day with people and seeing what other find interesting.
