Earlier this year, Fitness Expert, Katie Austin, released her first e-book Love Your Body, Love Your Life: 28 Days to a More Beautiful You geared towards teen and college girls around the world! The 28-day guide to getting fit includes workouts, healthy and tasty recipes, inspirational tips, and emphasizes the importance of self-love. You can purchase Katie’s new book at GetFitWithKatie.com as well on Amazon and iTunes.
Growing up in a family who have made health and fitness their core message, it comes as no surprise that Katie Austin, the twenty-one year old daughter of sports agent/professional tennis player Jeff Austin and fitness icon Denise Austin, would choose to continue the family’s dynasty in the fitness industry. As far back as Katie can remember, she has always enjoyed sports and being physically active. With fond memories of traveling the world with her mom Denise while she filmed her fitness TV show that aired for three decades, Katie wasted no time getting in front of the cameras in with commercials, TV shows, and magazines.

Hi Katie, please tell us a little about you?
Hi!! I am a student at the University of Southern California studying at the Annenberg School of Communications and at the Cinematic Arts School studying TV production. I am now following in my mom’s footsteps to become a fitness guru.
Describe yourself in one word?
Vibrant.
What is your background?
I am a Virginia girl living in Los Angeles. Ever since I was little I have been very involved in sports, where I continued to even play in college as a division I athlete.
How did you get started in the fitness field?
My answer is my mother, of course. My mom, Denise Austin, has been my idol growing up, and ever since I can remember I have wanted to do what she did when I grow up.
I grew up traveling to different beaches watching my mom film her television show. I was in many of her videos, shows, and television appearances all as I child, so naturally I have always loved fitness!
What is the #1 thing you like about being into fitness?
It helps empower girls! Fitness gives girls confidence.
What has been your biggest accomplishment in the fitness field?
I wouldn’t say my biggest accomplishment is anything I’ve promoted or created, but more so how I can inspire girls from all over the world. My biggest accomplishment is helping girls feel and look their best.
Please describe a typical day for you. What is your daily routine like?
I’m still in school, so my life can get pretty stressful! I go to school for about five-six hours a day since I’m taking 5 classes and trying to finish my minor, while also managing my business. After school, I workout, make myself some good food, and then work on whatever new upcoming project I have for my fitness business! I also live with 7 girls in a townhouse, so you’ll catch me hanging out and socializing a lot, too!
What type of food or supplements do you recommend before and after workouts?
My favorite thing to make after a workout is a protein smoothie. I never really want a full meal after I workout, and I can get pretty thirsty afterwards, so I make a smoothie with fruits, veggies, and some Muscle Milk protein powder. I use the non-gmo organic vanilla oneJ it’s the perfect way to get that protein in.
What is the most challenging thing you deal with about consistently staying in top shape?
No time! It’s really hard to stay in shape during college, with trying to be involved in social life, being surrounded by bad food, trying to stay on top of your schoolwork, etc. Sometimes I have ten minutes in between my classes, and have to utilize that time to get a small workout in. I’ve learned that a small workout is better than no workout. Even the little exercises you do can add up over time. Five minutes here and there!
What do you eat in a typical day to stay in shape?
My favorite breakfast to eat is avocado toast and egg whites. For lunch I usually have a veggie wrap, or salad, and then for dinner I usually have brown rice, some different veggies, and chicken! I eat snacks throughout the day, too. I’m always eating in class! I usually bring an apple, nuts, granola bar, smoothie, etc. to class.
What is your favorite healthy food?
KALE! So basic I know… But seriously there are just so many DELICIOUS ways to eat kale.
And your favorite cheat food?
French fries are my weakness.
What is your best body part?
Oh… Interesting question! Haha, I am proud of my legs I would say! I work hard to get the muscle tone on them.
What motivates you to keep going and push harder?
The girls who message and email me saying how much I inspire them, the girls who tell me that I have helped them become a better person, and those who ask me for more content. I love doing what I do!
What is your next goal?
Right now, it’s really hard to film workout videos with my schedule, and work with training girls. I want to come out with more fitness videos… which I will be soon;)
Favorite form of cardio?
I love dance cardio because it’s so fun that I forget I’m working out!
What are your best 3 tips for someone looking to reach their goal physique?
Stay focused. Write down your goal, and put it above your bed, your desk, or wherever you first look first thing in the morning. Always remember what you’re working towards. Set a date, so you have a time limit on when you can achieve this goal. Don’t get too down on yourself, and be patient. It takes time- just do the best you can!
Now tell us about your guide “The College Girl’s Guide to Fitness”?
Being a college girl myself, I know how hard it can be to stay in shape during those four years. I put together a guide for girls all over to help them stay fit. It includes easy recipes, dorm room fitness, how to keep up that freshman fifteen, and many more college fit tips!
Where we can get it?
It’s free on my website!! GetFitWithKatie.com
What was the feeling about the success of your e-book “Love Your Body, Love Your Life: 28 Days to a more Beautiful You”?
It’s a really cool feeling when girls tell me they followed it for 28 days, and showed me their results. I love seeing their before and after pictures!
How is having a fitness icon as a mom?
Having your mom as your mentor is awesome. She teaches me soo much about the fitness world! I think it’s crazy how much the fitness industry has changed though since when she had her TV show and best-selling DVDs, so it’s fun working together. I teach her about the digital world, and she teaches me the fundamentals.
Name one your strengths?
Believing in myself.
How do you spend your spare time?
With my friends!!
What’s your favorite quote?
Oh that’s a hard question because I have so many!! I love all the motivational quotes, of course, but I think the quote “You can’t Photoshop personality” is such a relevant quote right now. Girls these days get so caught up in social media, and it’s really sad to see some of them Photoshop themselves like crazy. I think the quote really reminds people of what’s important in life- your inner self. You can’t fake who you are. Always be real.
What are your makeup bag staples when traveling?
Make up wipes and oil pads. There is no worse feeling than traveling with a ton of makeup on for me!
Do you support any charity?
I do a lot of work with my sorority’s community service, which is the Blind Children’s Center.
3 things you can’t leave home without?
A hair tie, phone and water.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it is a perfect way to connect with people from all over the world. I love social media for the way it has helped me spread what I believe in. BUT, I do think that some people take advantage of it. A lot of the time, people focus so much on the image they want to create of themselves. I think especially for the fitness world, it can be jaded. Not hating on any of the fitness girls who do this, but to tell your following that you “just did squats to get that butt” when it’s photoshopped or fake…. It ruins it for the girls out there that think it’s attainable.
