You probably know OC native Jennette McCurdy as “Sam” on iCarly. Jennette has led a successful career in TV since a young age, appearing on CSI, Malcolm in the Middle, and Will & Grace just to name a few. She has since pursued a career in music, releasing the country album Jennette McCurdy in 2012.
In early August, she launched her own online series “What’s Next for Sarah?” where she stars in, writes, produces and edits the show. When she’s not working in music and television, she’s an active part of campaigns for Invisible Children Inc., St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Safe Kids USA as part of her charitable work.
We at Naluda Magazine had the chance to interview Jennette and learn about her busy life and upbringing in the OC.

How did you first get your start in acting?
I wanted to be in Star Wars when I was 6. I harassed my mom for two years, and she finally let up and got me an agent when I was 8.
What’s your favorite part about acting?
Meeting people I admire. Just kidding, craft services.
What are the most useful tips you could give to someone who’s just starting in the acting world?
Watch lots of movies and read lots of books. I can’t think of better homework!
What’s one of the funniest things that have happened to you on set?
Our prop department toilet papered my dressing room on the set of Sam & Cat!
Do you have any great memories with your co-stars that you’d want to share?
When I first met Miranda Cosgrove, it was at my screen test for iCarly. I was wearing a fashionable all-camo Limited Too outfit and she was sipping a coca cola. It was friendship at first sight!
Do you have a favorite actress or actor that inspires you?
Lucille Ball because I love what she did for women in comedy at a time when no one else was doing it. She really laid the path for every other female comedian to come.
What’s your favorite show on T.V. right now?
I like a Silicon Valley, Portlandia, and Game of Thrones.
You’re also quite the writer. I’ve seen some of your posts on the Wall Street Journal, and now you’re blogging on Seventeen. What do you love most about writing?
I love being honest and thoughtful with what I put on paper. For me, words are better seen and not heard. They resonate more.
How did you start writing for the WSJ / Seventeen?
I was asked! What an honor! Both WSJ and Seventeen have been so kind to me. I love working with them.
You write a bit about your personal experiences when it comes to dating, any advice you can give to our readers?
I think the most helpful thing with dating is just to not lose yourself. Always keep your sense of identity and your confidence intact and you’ll be fine!
As a young star with so much success, how do you balance keeping yourself grounded?
I’m not. Haha jk. I have really good friends around me that would slap me silly if I started acting like a jerk.
Fun Facts:
When it comes to fashion, what’s your favorite trend?
For summer, I LOVE halter tops and wearing lots of rings (especially midi’s!). I also like beachy pants with v-neck crop tops. So comfy and flattering!
Do you have any fashion inspirations?
I love Gwen Stefani’s street look and I really like what Emma Stone has been doing on her Spider-Man 2 your – lots of paperboy type looks! My biggest inspiration lately is actually my stylist, Brittany Hampton. She’s helped my style evolve so much but beyond that, I love every single thing she wears herself.
How do you like your coffee?
Haha I love this question. With an inch of soy milk and sometimes a sweet n low!
What’s one item you can never leave the house without?
Hand sanitizer. Gotta keep those germs away!
Do you ever use hashtags? Which one’s your favorite hashtag to use?
I like making up hashtags for whatever I’m posting. I’m not a big fan of trendy hashtags, like #yolo or #sorrynotsorry. I mean, in two years, we’re gonna regret using those lol.
When’s the last time you took a selfie?
Today in the car, to check my makeup of course. Yeah, that sounds good.
