[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”24966″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Our exclusive interview with gorgeous actress, dancer, world record holder, model and singer Sophia Lucia who recently released her debut single “AIN’T GONNA PLAY” on iTunes and Spotify. Now, Sophia is releasing her first ever music video to “AIN’T GONNA PLAY”. (watch below)
The song is personal to Sophia as it illustrates an important time in her life where she felt down. “I was with a boy that played a lot of games with me, he fought to be with me and when we finally got together, he played me. He talked to other girls behind my back. I thought I had to change who I was to be with him.” Sophia decided to use writing a song as an outlet to express her pain, and with that came “AIN’T GONNA PLAY”.
Most know people Sophia from the dance world, being on the Lifetime series “Dance Moms”, or breaking (and holding) the Guinness World Record for most pirouettes. Sophia has also guest-starred on shows such as: “Nicky, Ricky Dicky, and Dawn” , “Kirby Buckets”, “Shake It Up” and last year starred in her first film “A Nutcracker Christmas” on the Hallmark Channel.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”24965″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Describe yourself in 3 words?
Funny, caring, protective
Who is your biggest supporter?
My grandma! (I call her Gmom)
How’s a typical day in your life?
My typical day is very busy! But I take it day by day. Some days it’s just school and homework, others it’s dance, singing, and acting lessons, or I’m in LA for meetings and auditions. Like I said, I have to take it day by day.
When did you start dancing?
I started dance at 2yrs old
Did you take dancing classes?
Of course. My cousins worked at a dance studio so I basically was born into dance.
What is the experience to be on a very popular show like Lifetime’s Dance Moms?
Everyone asks me about Dance Moms, and I really don’t feel like I can speak about the show, because I really wasn’t on the show. I’m glad I didn’t stay on, but I had nothing but good time while filming.
How did you get on the show?
Producers asked me for years and my mom wanted them to stop calling so we finally did the show but left because we didn’t want to be locked into a contract.
Any advice for aspiring dancers?
Believe in yourself. Don’t just work hard, work smart.
What do you love most about dancing?
The way it makes me feel.
What type of dance do you like best?
Contemporary
What has been the best thing that has happened to you since being on the show?
Well I don’t think any of my achievements have come from the show, but I think my Guinness world record.
How does it feel to be really famous and be recognized on the streets?
I don’t consider myself famous. I think the word “famous” is an overrated label! I’m a normal teenager who does normal teenager things. Same with every “famous” person. With that said, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had die to being well known in the world! When girls or boys come up to me and ask for a picture, it’s still surreal to me. It’s hard for me to contemplate that girls and boys think of me the way I think of Lana Del Rey or Harry Styles. It’s such an honorable feeling and honestly feel very blessed.
You are followed by so many young girls. How do you feel about that pressure of doing always the right thing, and encourage people to follow their dreams?
I think social media has its pros and cons. I feel a lot of pressure being a person of influence for young girls and boys online. But I always try to send positive message and try to be the best role model I can be for my fans. But I’m not perfect person, and either is my photos on Instagram. Which is exactly my intentions. I wish more people would recognize nothing is how it is on Instagram. No one is picture perfect. I think you need to find yourself without Instagram before getting sucked in to the game of social media.
Now who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I was going through a really tough time in my life and I went to a doctor who encouraged me to start writing my feelings down on paper. He suggested like a “dear diary” type of thing, but I found that super cheesy so I started writing poetry. And my dad thought my poetry was good, so he mention writing a song. So he contacted a family friend to make a song with me!
Do you ever get nervous?
All the time. I’m a very anxious person and I’ve had to overcome a lot of things, but nerves never go away.
What is your next goal as a musician?
Just to make good music that people want to vibe too.
Now tell us about your first single “Ain’t Gonna Play?”
“Ain’t Gonna Play” is the very first song that I write that I felt comfortable putting out there. The song is about a boy who I was very much into who caused me a lot of pain. I wasn’t one for conflict so I would just let things go, so the song was my outlet to say anything that I didn’t have the courage to say to him in person.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC3W2NOqugM” title=”Sophia Lucia – Ain’t Gonna Play (Official Video) feat. theweiszest”][vc_column_text]What is the song about?
It’s about young love. Not just your first relationship gone bad, but the stuff girls go through with boys. I had a thing with this boy for months and he kept telling me how much he liked me and how he wanted to be with me, but then would run off with any of girl while I was away. But in general, guys lead girls on way too much and that’s why I think it’s relatable to girls my age!
What is next for Sophia Lucia in 2018?
Hopefully more acting jobs. Definitely more music! And I’m getting back to being current on my YouTube channel!
What project is still on your bucket list?
Lead actress in a teen drama show
How would you describe your fashion style?
Trendy, comfortable, chic.
Favorite designer?
Don’t have one! I love too many.
Do you have a favorite actress or actor that inspires you?
Meryl Streep, Shaileene Woolley, Gina Rodriguez
Best advice ever given?
Never doubt yourself. And to always stay true to myself in this business.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Shirley Temple because I adored her when I was super little and just loved her ambition in life.
Who is you’re role model?
A lot of people might not agree with me on this, but Lana Del Rey. She is very kind to her fans and handles situations with so much grace and humbleness. If I ever make it as big as her in my career, I hope I would be as sweet and humble as she is. I’m just in awe of her! When I saw her live in concert, I just about died.
Name one your strengths?
I think one of my strengths has to be forgiveness. I’m a very forgiving person, but sometimes that doesn’t benefit me. So there’s definitely some pros and cons to it!
How do you spend your spare time?
Watching TV! Lol
What kind of music do you like?
Alternative, Pop. Definitely the music I listen to the most!

I don’t think I have any! lol!

On a successful TV show as the lead actress.
