Check Liv Keegan’s new single/lyric video for “Just My Type” next![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”25016″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Hi Liv, please tell us a little about you!
I’m originally from Northern California, I am a singer/songwriter and an actress, and I have a cat named Atticus.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Loving, ambitious, and colorful.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I started in musical theater when I was 7 and I was hooked. When I made up my mind that I wanted to do on-camera acting, my parents thought it was just a phase, so they laughed and told me it was not possible. Of course, this just made me more determined, so I took matters into my own hands by writing a letter to an agent I found in San Francisco. She signed me, and my parents have been my biggest supporters since, even relocating to LA for me.
What is your musical background?
I started singing in musical theatre when I was seven, I’ve been taking voice lessons consistently since I was nine years old. Although I always loved singing, I didn’t feel like I had much to write about until I was maybe 15 or 16. Around that time, I picked up the guitar and piano and started to write (I still only know just the basics—I’m not a pro yet by any means!).
Do you play any instrument?
As I just mentioned, I play some guitar and piano, and I’m beginning to learn the software program Logic.
Tell us about your new single “Just My Type”?”
I wrote this song with Mick Coogan and Michael McGinnis, and It was actually the first session I ever had with them. I definitely think that fresh energy translated into the song. We were all having a really fun time in the studio riffing these quirky fun things over a baseline, and that’s eventually how the concept fell into place.
“Just My Type” is about falling for every part of someone, all of their weird quirks included. When that happens, you can really end up surprising yourself and liking things you never thought you would, redefining what you thought was your “type”.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCOYI32EJ2U” title=”Just My Type”][vc_column_text]How was the feeling of having your debut single “Queen Is A King” in the promo of hit show “The Real Housewives of New York” on Bravo?
It feels amazing; I was so excited when I found out that RHONY was going to use my song.
How did you get your single in the show?
Everything just fell into place. My manager sent them the song and they said they would love to use it.
What inspires you to create new music?
As a listener, music has done so much for me, and I really want to do that for other people.
What’s the best and hardest part of being a musician?
Music is universal, so when you think about the potential of your song bringing people together, it’s an amazing feeling. Another great part of being a musician is simply being able to do what you love on a daily basis. For me, the hardest part is finding the balance between being too hard and too easy on yourself.
Who else in your family sings?
My uncle, Tom Keegan is an incredible singer/songwriter/musician. My grandfather always sang in the church choir and my dad isn’t too bad either. My mom is tone deaf.
Now about your acting side, tell us about working on big name TV shows like ABC’s Modern Family, NBC’s Growing Up Fisher, FX’s Wilfred, Disney Channel’s A.N.T. Farm, Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans and Sam and Cat to name a few?
Working on every one of those shows was so much fun. My favorite was probably Wilfred because I was a huge fan of the show; working with Elijah Wood was awesome. I really don’t have one bad thing to say about any of those experiences, but it’s definitely different from being on a show on a regular basis where your cast-mates become your second-family.
Any other acting exciting projects you want to share with us?
I’ll be releasing my next song in the very near future; it’s one of my personal favorites. Follow my instagram @oliviarosekeegan for more details.
What is your own definition of happiness?
That’s a great question! It’s also hard to answer, since it can be so many different things. For me, happiness is being generally excited and curious about life. My happiness also comes from love, gratitude, perspective, and having a sense of purpose.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Steven Hawking and Whitney Houston. I would love to ask Stephen some questions about our universe and then I’d have Whitney teach me all of her singing techniques.
And which project is still on your bucket list?
Many, many things! I would love to go on a sold-out stadium tour and start my own record label somewhere down the road.
Best advice ever given?
Stand up straight and check my teeth before going on camera!
Do you have a role model?
I am blessed with a large family with a lot of smart, strong women. They are definitely my role models.
What is your favorite song? And why?
Wow…impossible to pick one song, but the first all-time favorites that come to my mind are “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston, “Imagine” by John Lennon, and “Stronger” by Kanye West. I think all of those songs have a timeless quality about them, which is the ultimate goal when making music.
Any future plans you want to share with us?
As I mentioned, new songs coming soon!
What is your next goal as a musician?
I would love to see my music connect with people.
Who is your favorite Actor/Actress? And why?
I really love Meryl Streep and James Franco. Streep is like the Beyoncé of acting, she’s flawlessly consistent. Franco is just always so creatively inspiring and interesting.
What is your favorite healthy food? And your favorite cheat food?
My favorite healthy food is carrots with hummus. My favorite cheat food is ice cream or anything with chocolate and peanut butter.
Name 3 things you can’t live without?
Great food, great music, and my loved ones.
How is a normal day in your life?
I wake up early and like to take my time getting ready for the day. Then I’m usually either on set acting or in the studio working on music. When I have downtime I like to hike, go to a spin class, and hang out with friends.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
I spend a lot of Sundays in the music studio and that’s always a good day. When I have the day off I like to have a voice lesson, walk to the neighborhood Farmer’s Market, go to the beach, read, and hang out with friends.
Do you support any charities?
I have been very involved with The Shoe Crew for over five years. We supply new shoes to the underserved. I also support Race to Erase MS and performed at their Gala last year.
