Hello! My name is Kimmy Shields and I was born and raised in Torrance, California. I have an affinity for horror films, singing Jazz, and vintage clothing. I come from a family of performers; Mom does stand-up and teaches Improv, Dad acts and directs at our local theater, and Big Brother is the most talented musician I’ve ever met.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Curious, eclectic, passionate.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My family (I consider them one unit).
How did you get started in the industry?
My representatives found me two weeks before I graduated college and swooped in while the timing was right.
What was your first acting role?
The Door Mouse in a stage production of Alice in Wonderland when I was six years old.
What is the best and worst part of being an actress?
The best part is getting to meet and work with people who are kind, highly intelligent, and more driven than a Chevy speeding through Texas. The worst part is the waiting.
Best advice ever given?
The golden rule that keeps revealing itself: Treat others how you want to be treated. Also, work really hard, stay really humble, and be really open to anything that comes along.
Tell us about the Netflix series “Insatiable,” and your role as Nonnie?
Insatiable is about a disgraced, dissatisfied civil lawyer-turned-beauty pageant coach who takes on Patty, a vengeful, bullied teenager as his client and has no idea what he’s about to unleash upon the world. Nonnie has been Patty’s best friend since she was three, and in love with her for probably just as long. She’s got great style, a good sense of humor, and a longing for identity that she fights to discover, although sometimes not in the healthiest way.
What has been your most memorable experience from the set so far?
Getting to say “see you tomorrow.”
What other projects you have been part of?
I popped up on a few episodes of HBO’s Big Little Lies, Netflix’s Glow, Girlboss, and Arrested Development, and several theatrical productions around Los Angeles.
Who is your favorite Actor/Actress? And why?
One of my many character flaws is indecisiveness, so instead of picking specific people, I gravitate towards Actors/Actresses that can roll with the punches, find the funny in any situation, and maintain their humanity amidst their privileged lifestyles.
3 things you can’t leave your house without?
Chapstick, book, planner, pencil pouch, notebook, back-up battery pack, and some good sunglasses. Did I mention I’m indecisive?
What music do you like?
I’m in a season of playlists, so I suppose right now my answer would be music that is new to me. I always like finding new songs to match my moods, but my tried and true favorites are The White Stripes, Nat King Cole, and some Broadway musicals for good measure.
Your idea of a perfect Sunday is?
Time to reflect on the great parts about life, a matinee movie, and a deliciously home cooked meal with lots of laughter and wine.
How’s a normal day in your life?
What’s “normal?”
What is your favorite healthy food?
I’ll let you know when I find out.
And your favorite cheat food?
Everything that’s not healthy.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
With a very long telescope, I suppose.
Do you support any charities?
I donate blood to the American Red Cross, clothing to Goodwill, and financial support to my church.
Where we can follow you?
On the mean streets of Los Angeles. But don’t be weird about it. Oh, you mean on the Internet? We can hang out on Instagram and Twitter if you search @kimmyshields.
