Interview with teen beauty influencer and creator of “Teeny Wee” Lip Sasha Anne.
She’s used her popular YouTube Channel “Sasha Anne” to recreate a ton of stunning cosplay makeup styles including her most popular, Elsa and Anna from Frozen. She has a true entrepreneurial spirit and recently created and launched her own line of tiny lip glosses called Teeny Wee. She also received a Shorty Awards Audience Honor for empowering young women with her Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman inspired makeup video. From using her dyslexia as an advantage, to never letting a potential opportunity pass her by, Sasha Anne’s story and positivity is incredibly inspiring.

Describe yourself in 3 words?
I would say that I’m eager, passionate and creative. I’m eager to learn and grow, passionate when involved in a project I care about and I’m creative because I create YouTube videos (I film and edit them myself), I write my own songs, I love to create my own unique style with fashion, I love to choreograph dance routines and I’m always creating new makeup looks/transformations as seen on my YouTube Channel.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid I wanted to be a singer. Here’s a funny true story. When I was 3 years old, my parents thought Providence Rhode Island would be a fun place to visit. They chose to leave late at night hoping I would sleep in the car during the 3-4 hour car drive and then they would transfer me into a bed. As soon as my dad started driving I started to sing. I sang for two hours straight. So instead of driving directly yo to Providence, they chose to stop after two hours at a hotel hoping I would stop singing and go to sleep. I did stop singing and we continued to Providence in the morning.
How did you get in the industry?
In 2013 I started my YouTube channel, Sasha Anne, which became known for its makeup tutorials and makeup transformations. I fell in love with doing makeup. it’s so therapeutic for me. I love creating new looks. My friends ask me to do their makeup and then other people ask them who did their makeup and they recommend me for weddings, prom or other events. I have had a few gigs in New York and LA as a makeup artist for movies and television. In May 2017 I launched my own line of lip glosses called TeenyWee under my name Sasha Anne. I had an idea to create tiny glosses that could go into a tiny evening bag when I saw how my mom struggled to put a phone and a lipstick into her bag. I was nominated for a Shorty Award in the beauty category in 2017 for a short Cinderella transformation video I did. (The Shorty Awards is an annual awards show recognizing the people and organizations that produce real-time short form content across social media.) It was a huge honor since I was the youngest nominee in that category alongside Aveda! The video I filmed in March 2017-”I’m nominated for a Shorty award” has become one of my most viewed videos. Everything started coming together quickly when I was just in High School. As of June 2019, my YouTube channel has almost 5 thousand subscribers and that video is almost at 28,000 views.
What is the feeling of being a popular influencer?
It’s such an amazing feeling to know that my followers trust me and when they want to know about a product, they come to me and ask me for my opinion. That’s a big deal to me. I need to be careful with what I say about a brand but at the same time I always want to be authentic with my audience and give my honest opinion. I would never say I love a product or recommend it if I really don’t. Being an influencer means that a brand or multiple brands trust you and know that you are honest. I get stressed sometimes when I am voicing my opinion. I try to be very careful in how I phrase my sentences. I am dyslexic so I have to think hard about the words I use since I sometimes flip the sentence structure.
What part of your job do you find the most challenging?
I find a few things challenging. I think keeping a schedule is difficult because I am now a college student and I want to maintain good grades. If an invite to a fashion or beauty event comes up last minute when I’m supposed to be studying or filming a YouTube video, that becomes stressful and challenging. If I suddenly get a large order for lip glosses or if many orders come in at once to different locations, I have to make sure the orders go out on time and correctly. Plus, my followers/subscribers are expecting a video from me at a certain time so I need to stay on a filming schedule and constantly come up with new ideas. So it’s a lot of juggling.
What did you learn from your biggest failure?
I’ve learned that you can’t rush anything. Everything takes time. Every detail is important and can not be rushed. I am very eager and sometimes being that way can affect my projects because I’m very excited to share what I’m up to with my followers even if it’s not ready yet.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I think every young entrepreneur should read “Girl Boss” And then every entrepreneur should read about her downfall and learn from it.
Tell us about your hit YouTube channel “Sasha Anne”? And did you think one day will be so popular?
My YouTube channel, as I mentioned earlier, focuses on topics relating to beauty. I post makeup tutorials and makeup transformations. I help empower women as well as young girls and help them find their voice/confidence. I am dyslexic and Ialways had trouble expressing myself through words so I started early to express myself with the power of makeup.
“People should be able to express themselves the way they want and if you find something you’re passionate about it will be easier to express yourself. Everyone is passionate about something. It can be as simple as a lip gloss”. – Sasha Anne
I remember every milestone; When I hit 1000 views and then when I won Audience Honor last year at the Shorty Awards. Two years in a row of being recognized!!! It was a dream that came true. The best part about it is that I love creating the videos. I am doing what I love doing.
How often do you post videos?
At the beginning of the last school year-in early September I intended to post three times a week! That became a difficult task and stressed me out! Especially since I was also in school. I filmed 3 videos on Sunday, edited in 1 day and pre-uploaded for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The videos were amazing and all edited. At the same time I had homework. I don’t know how I did it. Now, I post once a week. Every Thursday night at 7pm est. It is a saner schedule and I have time to do m y school work and projects, go to the recording studio for my songs, go to my voice lessons and work on my company, Teeny Wee Cosmetics.
What do you think is the secret to have a successful YouTube Channel?
If there was a secret I would shout it out. There really is no secret to having a successful YouTube channel. The way to be successful on YouTube is to stay focused on your message and your content and to have a realistic schedule of when you are going to post. You don’t need to have a fancy camera. I started out with an iPad and then my computer camera and I still got the views. Lighting makes a huge difference. I’d say film during the day when you have natural lighting. Maybe in front of a window. Have minimum distractions in the background. Minimize background noise. Most importantly you need to be patient with yourself. Subscribers don’t come to your channel overnight. It takes time! You need to cross promote your channel on your social media.
Now tell us about your Teeny Wee line?
I launched my company when I was 17. I am now almost 20! From the very beginning I knew that there was something missing on the market. I thought to myself “what could it be?” I realized that no one had a tiny lip gloss that could fit in your smallest pocket. So I thought I should come out with a tiny lip gloss that could fit in your purse and pocket so you could take it on the go and touch up whenever you need to. They’re so cute! And PETA certified. Now I only have lip glosses but I’m hoping to expand my company. I plan on changing the packaging to reflect how I’ve grown in the past year. I would love to hear from my followers as to what packaging would excite them.
What kind of music do you listen normally?
I normally listen to pop music. My favorite singer is Ariana Grande. I went to her Sweetener tour on Tuesday and I was so thrilled to be there. She is just so talented. Some of my other favorites are Christina Aguilera, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
What is your own definition of happiness?
The love of my family and friends makes me happy. It doesn’t come from “things”. Happiness from purchases lasts about 3 minutes. Giving back and helping others makes me happy with a feeling that lasts
What are the five things you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my family, my friends, my dog, coffee and music
Best advice ever given?
The best advice I ever received is to do what you love and what makes you happy. If you are passionate about something you will be successful and happy.
What is next for Sasha Anne in 2019?
Continuing to build my brand, my YouTube channel, working on my album and empowering as many people as possible.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Audrey Hepburn. The way she led her life with such elegance, grace and respect for others is so admirable.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Japanese food (cucumber roll, miso soup and salmon teriyaki).
And your favorite cheat food?
Chicken nuggets and French fries.
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
If a guy is constantly texting his mother (which has actually happened). Or if a guy says “also, I don’t know if you’re up for it but after we go to the cafe do you want to go to my uncle’s hot tub” (this actually happened).
Which project is still on your bucket list?
I would love to finish my album.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
My idea of a perfect Sunday is sleeping late, having a Grande iced coffee with skim milk, swimming in an indoor pool because I love a heated pool and smell of chlorine. Hanging out with friends. Eating Sushi for dinner
Do you support any charity?
I support the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, which builds relationships among the diverse ethnic and religious communities of New York City to create a safer and more harmonious City. I also support the Interfaith Alliance, a national organization dedicated to the protection of people of all religions.
What does fashion mean to you?
Your style is your kryptonite. You should dress the way you want and that makes you feel best, even if others don’t agree.
How would you explain your fashion style?
I would describe my style as feminine with an edge. For example I would wear a pink or Cinderella blue dress and pair that with a black leather jacket and vintage heels. Btw I also have a huge love for vintage fashion.
How important is Social Media for you?
Social Media is very important to me because it’s the primary way interact with my followers. I always need to stay up to date with the newest trends in beauty and even fashion. It’s the place to promote my music, Teeny Wee Lip glosses and the Sasha Anne YouTube channel.
