Check out our interview with talented CW’s “Batwoman” actor Brendon Zub.
Brendon stars as Chuck Dodgson who is a trusted Crows security agent who works for Jacob Kane, the father of Kate Kane. He’s an all American nice guy who appears to be loyal to his squad, but ultimately has his own agenda and may not be all that he seems.
“Batwoman” follows Kate Kane, Gotham’s new vigilante. Three years after Batman mysteriously disappeared, Gotham is a city in despair. Without the Caped Crusader, the Gotham City Police Department was overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs. Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Hi Brendon, please tell us a little about you?
I’m an Actor, journeyman Carpenter, History and High fantasy geek with a passion for adventure, scuba diving, sports, pizza, and Brazilian Jiujitsu.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Adventurous, Loyal, Disciplined.
Who was your role model as a child?
I looked up to my father a lot growing up. But if not him, I’d say it was Roberto Alomar of the Toronto Blue Jays. I was crazy about baseball as a child.
How did you get started into acting?
The first official start was in highschool Drama and Mime class and my first role as the lead in the high school play.
How has this changed your life?
Completely. For most of my life, my goal was to become a professional sports player of some kind. But since I played so many I never perfected one. Acting was my second love that some early encouragement got me thinking I could pursue it as a career. As a result, I took as many theatre/acting classes in College as I could and then after graduating moved to Vancouver for Film school and never looked back.
Tell us about your work in CW’s series “Batwoman” and about your role as Chuck Dodgson?
It has been the most fun I’ve had on a network show so far. Dodgson is a high-ranking member of the Crows security force in Gotham working closely with Jacob Kane and Kate Kanes ex Sophie Moore. However, he’s soon revealed to be a traitor, Alice’s secret lover, and member of the wonderland gang. Viewers are just beginning to see hints of Alice’s and Dodgson’s plans for Gotham. However, more of their relationship, backstory, and true motivations will be revealed later on in the season.
How was working with Ruby Rose?
It’s been great! When we first started shooting, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I didn’t know much about her having only seen her in John Wick 2 playing a badass silent assassin. That side of her definitely comes out when she dons the bat suit, but behind the mask shes very fun to hang out with and a genuinely thoughtful and compassionate person. She is perfect for the role of Kate Kane.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The people I meet and the friendships I make onset.
How would you explain your fashion style?
I would say a mix between the Rugged & Rebel look
How would your best friend describe you?
A modern-day Renaissance man.
What’s next for Brendon Zub in 2019/2020?
Career-wise…still recuring on Batwoman for the time being and making some Hallmark Chanel appearances. Fun Wise…looking to head somewhere tropical and warm for the holidays…possibly New Zealand.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I think happiness is the journey towards life’s pleasures and goals with a healthy dose of challenges and obstacles in your way.
What is a normal day in your life?
Breakfast, jog while listening to podcasts, back home for emails, noon Jiujitsu class, audition/prep, read, nap, gym, dinner with friends, review audition or watch the hockey game, catch up on Youtube vids, watch SportsCentre, bedtime stretches, then fall asleep to an audiobook.
What is your idea of a perfect Sunday?
Morning workout or swim, Church, brunch, afternoon Jiujitsu or hike, reading, nap, grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner and a movie or some video game time.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Jesus…He’d either answer life’s questions…or give me many more.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Pizza..with some veggies
And your favorite cheat food?
Pizza…without
Best advice ever given?
If you strive to be successful you won’t always be faithful, but if you strive to be faithful you will always be successful
Do you support any charity?
World Vision.
Name 3 things you can’t live without?
Food, Water, Air…ok joking aside…Audiobooks, Jiujitsu, and…did I mention pizza?
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Doing much the same but hopefully with a more established and cemented career and home life. I’d love to be a regular in some epic history/fantasy tv-series and a much more competitive Jiujitsu practitioner.
Favorite song? Why?
‘Somewhere Only We Know’ by Keane…not sure it is my ultimate favorite but it’s definitely up there for me. It instils in me the perfect blend of longing, love, heartbreak, reminiscing, joy, and hope for the future. Plus the piano chords in it are hauntingly beautiful.
What music do you like?
All types. Generally the best of each genre…all the way from classical, and inspirational to pop, alternative, and rock.
What do you think of Social Media?
A tempting time-wasting distraction yet an increasingly necessary career publicity platform
