Yasmeen Fletcher was born in Orange County, CA then moved to Las Vegas, NV at the age of 3. She lived there until December 2018 when she moved back to LA to pursue her acting career. A singer since the age of 2 and an actress since the age of 13, she’s always had a love for the entertainment industry. Yasmeen has two movies coming out this year: Let Us In and Upside Down Magic.

Hi Yasmeen, please tell us a little about you?
My name is Yasmeen Fletcher and I’m an actress/singer. I’m 16 years old and I’ve gotten the unbelievable opportunity to do what I love for about 4 years now. Within that time period I’ve gone on an insane journey of hours and hours of traveling, to moving to a different state, to booking jobs that come out very soon. I have a supportive team/family who believes in me more than even I do at times and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Full of love.
Who is your role model?
I have a few huge role models. My parents have always been exemplary examples of how adults and people should act so they’ve been my longest role models. They’re extremely hard working, kind, loving, and dedicated and if I can grow up to be half as amazing as them I’ll be set. Within the acting industry though, I’m extremely inspired by Robin Williams. His ability to go from a hilarious stand up to a serious dramatic actor has always been exciting to me.
How did you get started into acting?
Ever since I was little I had wanted to do something within the entertainment industry but didn’t know how being that no one in my family had ever done something like that. I guess I actually got started as an actress through a close friend who had been acting since she was little. She had recommended that I try the acting class she went to and from there I just fell in love with the craft.
How has this changed your life?
This has changed my life more than I ever thought it could. Similar to what I mentioned earlier, I spent a lot of time driving back and forth from Vegas to California and back for auditions or classes or meetings and so on and forth. But because only one of my parents would come with me, our family was split in half for the majority of the time. After doing this for some time, we all moved to L.A. around January of 2019. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of super happy “booking moments” and tremendously difficult let downs but I know this entire experience has matured me and made me a better person.
Tell us about your recurring work in Disney’s “Andi Mack?”
Working on Andi Mack was everything you think it would be and more. This was my first significant job so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but everyone (cast, crew, and everyone in between) was so warm and welcoming that I felt like part of the family. Shooting in Utah and getting to know people was a blast.
And about your work in “Upside-Down Magic?”
I cannot be more thankful for this project. When I booked the job I got to fly out the same day to Vancouver and I basically stayed there for two months from that day. In Upside-Down Magic I was given the opportunity to play an extremely complex and fascinating character that was SO fun to play. Probably the most fun character I’ve ever played actually. Aside from my character I clicked instantly with the cast (I love them to death) and working with their talented selves was so enlightening. I can’t wait for everyone to see us all in action this summer on Disney Channel 🙂
What other projects have you have been part of?
Another project I got to film last year was a feature film called Let Us In. This project was really cool because it was a sci-fi/horror type movie which is something I hadn’t done before. I believe this project is also set to premier this year!
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is probably seeing all of the working parts make something creative and entertaining for the world to see. Being included in something as big but also as small as a film or tv show is so incredibly gratifying. Receiving the script, getting into character, performing it, bringing it to life… all of this is included in my part of the job but watching those small things fill in the puzzle is truly beautiful.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I’m obsessed with Cutie oranges. It’s a problem.
And your favorite cheat food?
…Oreo or Hershey’s cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory is my absolute weakness.
How would you explain your fashion style?
Explaining my fashion style can be a little bit difficult because of how diverse it is at times. I’d say it walks the line between comfortable and dressy. It’s fairly experimental.
How would your best friend describe you?
I asked and I was given the response of “caring, talented, and someone who’s not afraid of opportunity.” Excuse me while I cry.
What’s next for Yasmeen Fletcher in 2020?
Improvement. At the end of this year I want to look back and know that I improved in almost every aspect. Career wise, mentally, physically, and just as a person in general. No matter what happens this year I’m going to make sure I’m proud when I reflect.
What is your own definition of happiness?
In my opinion, happiness means feeling an overwhelming sense of belonging. I always feel happy when I feel comfortable and like I belong. For example, when I’m around my family, friends, or doing my job. I’m happiest where I feel I belong.
How is a normal day in your life?
My ideal day routine: Wake up, wash face/brush teeth, coffee, work on a little bit of whatever course I’m taking at the moment, practice singing, practice guitar, sit with family and/or call my friends, and then get ready to go to bed.
What is your idea of a perfect Sunday?
My perfect Sunday would consist of binging on a really good show and painting with my friends and family. It’s simple but it sounds like the perfect evening.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Robin Williams. Absolutely Robin Williams. He’s one of the most talented actors/stand ups that I’ve ever seen and, like I said before, one of my biggest inspirations. In improvisational terms he’s one of the best and the amount of characters he can play is mind blowing.
Best advice ever given?
I’ve said this in the past but my dad has always told me to “get out of my own way” which basically means that I shouldn’t let my fears and insecurities get in the way of what I can accomplish.
Do you support any charity?
As of right now, I’d like everyone to take a moment and donate to a gofundme that is helping to save the wildlife in Australia.
Name 3 things you can’t live without?
My family, friends, and Dutch Bros. (If you don’t know what Dutch Bros is, it’s the best coffee place in existence.)
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Honestly I’m not too sure. I’d love to work on a dramatic feature, win an Oscar or an Emmy (maybe not within the next 5 years but eventually), work on a comedic series… things like that. Because of the unpredictability of my industry it’s really difficult to say where I see myself career wise.
Favorite song? Why?
I’m LOVING the song RNP by YBN Cordae because of how old school it sounds and how insanely fun it is to dance to.
What music do you like?
My musical taste can be extremely diverse. I think the only type of music I don’t particularly love is heavy metal-type rock music. Other than that I listen to a bit of everything.
What do you think of Social Media as you are a huge influencer in this category?
Social Media is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand it’s a great way to build your career and talk to people that you may have never been able to contact before, but on the other hand it can be really hard to deal with at times. Everyone always posts themselves from the best angle in the best lighting having the best time and it’s extremely easy to get caught up in the magic of that. Self comparison and self doubt is something I and many others deal with because of social media but reminding yourself that it’s only a two dimensional selective version of someone’s life really helps.
What is the feeling of being a popular influencer?
It really doesn’t feel like anything different. Obviously I’m extremely thankful and grateful for my life and my circumstances, especially in my career and following but I don’t feel like a “popular influencer.” I just feel like a normal person with a decent amount of observers.
What do you think is the secret to having a successful Social Media channel?
While, in all honesty, I haven’t kept up too much recently (I’m fixing this asap), staying active is extremely important. Just showing who you are on a daily bases (flaws and all) can make all the difference and make you entertaining enough for someone to take the time to follow.
