One of the hottest topics in any area of life at the moment is the problem of plastic waste. The amount of plastic being washed up on beaches, islands and coastal communities around the world is staggering and horrifying and there is a growing need for all industries to do something about. With the world of golfing apparel, the first step to dealing with plastic waste comes in the form of the new collection called PRIMEBLUE by adidas.
What is PRIMEBLUE?
PRIMEBLUE is a new collection from Adidas that is being launched worldwide and contains products that are made with 70-75% recycled polyester. The material is known as PRIMEBLUE and is made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic.
This is plastic that has been found on beaches and islands around the world and is being transformed into high-quality polyester yarn to use in clothing and footwear – in this case into golfing clothes.
To start with the range will include two polo shirts and shorts for men and two sleeveless polos and skorts for women. There is a limited edition range of men’s and women’s footwear that use the new recycled material and feature the new CODECHAOS silhouette – their latest in golf footwear advancement.
Items in the range
The CODECHAOS PRIMEBLUE shoes are ultra-lightweight and very comfortable. They make use of the company’s Boost technology that returns energy from movement. They are also spikeless while still giving a professional level of traction and stability when swinging your club.
The men’s polo shirts may be made from recycled material but still remain ultra-soft and come in two soft blue shades to connect them to their ocean background. The shirts feature moisture wicking performance materials with natural stretch as well as the usual Adidas features including hem vents and UV protection.
The women’s shirts are sleeveless and feature a buttonless V-neck for a modern look and comfortable fit on the course. The single pleat at the back creates the high quality athletic top look and it features gradients striping.
The men’s shorts come in grey or blue and are a flattering design that is comfortable to wear. They also feature moisture wicking materials. The women’s skort takes the Adidas design and uses the new recycled material for a classic golf skirt that allows ease of movement and features a side zip.
Facing the problem
Adidas are keen to start making changes to their golf clothing ranges now and PRIMEBLUE is the first step. With the awareness that by 2050, oceans may contain more plastic than fish, every industry needs to do their bit.
Adidas has committed to converting 100% of its virgin polyester to recycled products where the technology exists by 2024. It is the first step in their Three Loop Strategy that was recently outlined to contribute to dealing with the problem of plastic waste.
PRIMEBLUE will be followed by PRIMEGREEN later in the year which will contain no virgin plastic as part of their Recycled Loop policy. So, watch out for more products featuring recycled polyester later in the year.
