Hi Jordan, please tell us a little about you?
Well my name is Jordan as you said. Im 24. I was born and raised in California. I grew up all around the bay area. I come from an extremely musical family but I didn’t start my journey with music until I was older. I’ve been rapping for about 3 years now. I was originally set on playing basketball for the majority of my life. I still can get up and down the court a little. But beside all that I’m a chill person that loves to create and be around the people I love. Not too different from most.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Loving, Poet, Fallible
Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why?
My father hands down. He has shaped who I am in so many ways. My successes in life have come from what he sowed into me as often as he could. His belief in me is infectious and fierce. I simply can’t say i’d be where i’m at without him.
How did you get started in the business?
Through my father and mother’s development. They are a writing and production team/ label that built me from the ground up. Because of their work ethic, belief, and success they were able to invest in me as an artist.
Did you go to music school?
From the time that I can remember, there has been a studio in every place that we’ve ever stayed. He’s worked in music consistently for the last 31 years so it’s safe to say I’m a product of that. In addition to that my mother is a massively talented artist and songwriter so she influenced my musical ability in a lot of ways too.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Honest, HipHop, Unapologetic
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I have a lot of influences. Outkast, Common, Kendrick, Cole, Mos Def, Jay Z, Drake, etc. the list goes on and on. But the two main ones that played a role in me choosing to make music were Logic and my dad. The type of music they were making was amazing to me. Something about it made me want to try to create my own version of it.
What is different from “IDTIDM” to other music out there?
Me. No one else can sound like me better than me. Everything you hear in these songs is something that I either went through personally or felt at one time or another. No one else can write from my perspective.
Do you ever get nervous?
Absolutely.
What is your next goal as a musician?
I want to be able to support myself entirely with music. I’m hoping I won’t have to go back to work for anyone else again.
Do you have a tour coming up or where we can see you performing?
I don’t have a tour coming up but I do have a performance! I’ll be performing “Jump!” for CTF’s Home is Where The Heart Is Zoomathon event to end NF on May 17th, international NF Awareness Day. I’m extremely honored to have been selected to perform and can’t wait to help bring awareness through music.
What we can expect of JUMPMAN in 2020?
Expect more music and videos! We’ve worked two years straight to build up a catalog to be able to release. People are going to be hearing alot more of me the rest of this year.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
As of right now its a tie between my song Plague and Desires by Drake ft Future. Those are two of my favorite songs to listen too at the moment.
Name one of your strengths?
I’m very articulate. I believe that helps me when it comes to figuring out what I want to say on any given track.
What is your own definition of happiness?
This is a tough one because I’m not sure I have that 100 percent figured out. I want to say it would be finding peace in even the most chaotic situations. Because if you’re able to focus on the things that bring you joy even though life is coming at you, I feel like you’ll always be able to find happiness. At least that’s what I’m working on right now.
Any loves other than music?
I’m a huge movie buff. I can literally watch movies all day. I love playing pool. Texas Holdem is one of my favorite card games. Definitely can forget basketball.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Fruit from my mom’s garden!
And your favorite cheat food?
Potatoes in almost any of its fried forms.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
My grandfather. He passed away when my dad was a teenager unfortunately, so I never got to meet him. I’ve heard so many stories about him and he sounds like the most interesting man in the world to me. I would have loved to get to share all this with him and hear what he thought and probably get hit for all the cursing. I know my dad would love that too.
How would you describe your fashion style?
The best way I could describe it is Californian. Lots of hoodies, flannel, and long sleeve shirts. Usually paired with some decent kicks. When I’m stepping out though it switches to slim fit semi-formal wear.
What do you think of Social Media?
Oddly enough for my career choice, I like my privacy unless it’s through the music. That’s the only place I don’t really have any walls up. But I feel like it does more harm than good to the general population at times. And now with Covid-19 and the stay home orders that we’ve been under for the past two months, we have been using it more than ever to pass time. So I’m just trying to manage my usage, while also understanding it’s important to connect person to person with people that take the time and energy out to support me. Because that’s the mission. Help as best as I can. It’s just social media is the only avenue we have to communicate at this time. So I’m trying to use it to inspire me and the people that connect with my music. Instead of looking at things that are meant to make me compare myself to someone else or what I have to what someone else has.
