Describe yourself in 3 words?
Optimistic, curious, kind
Who is your role model?
I don’t know if I could just choose one person! I’m constantly inspired by so many women. Right now I’m reading Gabby Bernstein’s book ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ and I am obsessed with her positive outlook on life and full trust in the universe.
How did you get started into acting?
I started working on commercials in 2014 while I was in college at USC. My first commercial was an Audi commercial for the Audi R8 that was featured in Fifty Shades of Grey! After that I started getting interested in doing more types of acting and began studying improv.
How has this changed your life?
I was surprised by how much acting actually taught me about myself. I remember an acting coach of mine telling me that there’s no such thing as acting, that we’re really just playing different parts of our true self. Acting has helped me to learn to tap into different parts of my true self and to deeply understand who I am.
What is the best and worst part of being an actress?
The best part is getting to do something you love, every audition or casting I go to is a new opportunity to act! The worst part would have to be the rejection, but I’ve learned to not take that personally.
Tell us about your work in “The Row?”
In The Row I played a journalist who is trying to investigate a mysterious murder on a college campus. This movie was such a blast to work on. I became friends with some of the other talent on set and we’re actually still very close to this day!
What other projects you have been part of?
Currently, I am hosting and producing a talk show called Millennial Life on EverTalk TV. I interview inspiring and entrepreneurial millennials each week. One of my favorite things to learn about someone is why they are so motivated to do the things they’re doing, we all have our own reasons for why we want something and what it means to us.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part is getting to tell a story. Whether that’s through acting or interviewing someone on my show, stories are so powerful.
What actor/actress do you admire the most, and why?
I just finished watching season 4 of Queen of the South and I love Alice Braga. She is confident, powerful, sexy and extremely intelligent!
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I’ve been reading The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. I think everyone, entrepreneur or not, should read this. It has short daily meditations about stoicism, which in short, is the practice of stillness. We cannot control the world around us, but we can control our reaction to it. I love this book because it’s a very small time commitment each day that adds up to a long lasting effect.
What is your favorite healthy food?
My favorite healthy food to make is buffalo cauliflower! I posted my recipe for it on TikTok and people loved it. I think I’ve been tagged in people making this recipe more than anything else!
And your favorite cheat food?
One of my favorite cheat meals is a big, juicy cheeseburger with French fries and a chocolate shake.
How would you explain your fashion style?
My fashion style is a mix of model-off-duty meets business. I like to dress casual when I can, but I also love a nice blazer and heels.
How would your best friend describe you?
A very good time. Ha
Now talking about Instagram, can you share some tips for keeping your account interesting?
Yes! I think the key to social media is to cater to your audience. Who are they and what can you help them with? Also, what are they asking you for? I usually post healthy recipes on my social media, but I’ll also get requests to make other types of content, so I make sure to create that if it’s being requested. A good Instagram account is less about showing off what you have and more about providing value to whoever is following you.
I bet you get millions of it, but what are the best and worst Instagram DM pickup lines you received so far?
The worst in my opinion is a simple ‘Hi’ or ‘Hey’, because it’s such a dud! If you want to talk to someone, say something that can spark a conversation. The best way to slide into the DMs is to say something that’s a conversation starter, like replying to a story or asking about a common interest.
What’s next for Laura Odegard in 2020?
I’m currently working on getting my YouTube channel up! It’s been a very fun project for me to work on while in quarantine and I’m excited to keep sharing more easy and healthy recipes on my channel. I make videos for women who are busy, motivated and are looking for something to whip up thats quick, healthy and delicious! I’ll also be sharing some lifestyle content like fashion tips, latest trends, makeup, beauty and more.
What is your own definition of happiness?
My definition of happiness is realizing that I’ve already made it. As a very ambitious person, I think I will always have another goal that I’m working towards, but I’ve been learning that no matter where I am in my life, happiness comes from within, not from reaching a goal. Happiness is romanticizing your own life just as it is in this moment and recognizing it as something special. I am a firm believer in the law of attraction and becoming the thing that you want to attract!
How is a normal day in your life?
Since I’m still quarantined, a normal day in my life starts with a 10 min meditation while I’m still in bed and then coffee, and lots of water. Then I like to do some sort of movement, whether it’s going for a long walk or taking a pilates class online. After that, I’m on phone calls and working most of the day with a few breaks in between to pet my dogs (I have 4 rescue chihuahuas!). I like to end my days reading a book, watching something on YouTube or sometimes I’ll do a second workout if I’m feeling restless.
What is your idea of a perfect Sunday?
My perfect Sunday would include sleeping in, going to a pilates class, then going to Alfred’s coffee to get an iced oat milk latte. Next, we would go to the beach with a big group of friends and have a BBQ and a few cocktails. We would end the day making s’mores and watching a movie!
Where do you see yourself and your career 5 years from now?
5 years from now I see myself having published easy and healthy recipe cookbooks that help women worldwide. I see myself working with younger women and mentoring them to become their best selves. I aspire to be a positive role model for younger generations and someone that gives honest and actionable advice!
