Hi guys, please tell us a little about you?
Hey! We are LAKEMONT. We are made up of three childhood best friends: Alyssa Yeary, our main vocalist, Alyssa’s husband, Dustin, who is our drummer, and Kyle Brown is our producer/electric player/singer. It blows our minds everyday how talented Kyle is.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Funny, Unfiltered, Weirdos
Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why?
As a band we would probably say Two Door Cinema Club. That band just has some melodies that you just cannot find nowadays. We really strive to make the electric guitar parts have strong, memorable melodies in our songs like a Two Door Cinema Club song.
How did you get started in the business?
All three of us have been in the music industry for a while now. Alyssa and Dustin have been a part of the corporate world of music for a while now, doing weddings, parties, private events, business conferences, etc. And Kyle has played with a lot of bands locally and has produced a lot music for our friends. Due to COVID, all of our gigs and lives were put on hold, but thankfully we were able to finally sit down and take time to create music together! Through quarantine, we were able to make a project that we are extremely proud of… Lakemont.
Did you go to music school?
Yes. All three of us have been to school for music. Alyssa was part of a very prestigious drama program at her middle school and high school, and she is still a huge Broadway nerd to this day. There may still be YouTube videos of her playing Dorothy somewhere… But she also just graduated with her college degree involving music. Dustin was enrolled at Berklee for a summer semester but felt like music school wasn’t worth the time or money compared to getting real life experience of the gigging world. And Kyle was enrolled and went to a music school down in Fort Lauderdale and actually completed their program and was able to get a lot of opportunities after graduating.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Fresh. Pop. Vibes.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
We have a lot of different bands that have influenced us. Artists like Two Door Cinema Club, Paramore, Tame Impala, Post Malone, and more have helped us shape what kind of sound we are going for. I know individually, our music tastes actually differ a lot from one another. We chose to make this kind of music because we were tired of being cover artists and drained by the “cover band” corporate world of music. While the money is good, it is hard singing someone else’s songs every night. We all wanted to express and share to the world what we have to say as musicians.
Do you ever get nervous?
Of course! Being a new band, it is sometimes scary to put ourselves out there and pray the people like our music. We are being very vulnerable in our lyrics and melodies, so it can be scary to open up like that to a bunch of people. We have been very blessed to have found some people that enjoy our music although! But from a performing standpoint, our lead vocalist, Alyssa, gets nervous every time before going out on a stage to perform, especially when it is her vulnerable lyrics. But, as soon as she starts singing and the band starts playing, she feels as though she is doing what she was made to do, and nothing can stop her… all nerves disappear.
What is your next goal as musicians?
Our next goal is to all move in together into a house and take LAKEMONT to the next level. We are actually moving to Nashville, TN to learn everything we can and write new music all the time.
Tell us about your upcoming new song?
Our second single brings a 70’s production with a modern pop vocal and guitar performance. Our lead singer, Alyssa Yeary, actually went through a pretty nasty breakup and it took her a good while to get over the guy. She self-reflected that she used to find her security and identity in the guy she dated instead of her strong, independent self. This song is meant to tell that story through the lens of two lovers realizing that even though they love each other, this relationship is truly holding them back from being them best selves. They can only become “Better Than Before” once they say goodbye.
Do you have plans to do any online concert or live videos for your fans?
We have a couple fun ideas for some online content!
What we can expect of Lakemont in 2020?
We are planning to release one more single for the year and then start working on an EP for hopefully early spring of 2021.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
As a band…..probably All The Small Thing by Blink 182.
Name one of your strengths?
I think our strength is that we are best friends. In the creative process, it is easy to get over-opinionated and passionate when writing, but even when we do argue during a session, we are still best friends at the end of the day. We do not find our security of our friendship in our music, so a little disagreement about music won’t change our friendship. Also, since we are so close, we usually have the same vision for our project and can get on board really easy.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I think we have all found that we are truly happy when we are doing what we were created to do. When we create and play music, we know that this is what we were born to do. Maybe Lakemont won’t even go anywhere, and that is okay. We don’t think that success equals happiness. We are happy when we are just creating.
Any loves other than music?
All of us have weird hobbies that we love. Kyle is the best yo-yo elite ever and has a great collection of yo-yos. Dustin could be a pro gamer and can beat anyone in Halo. And Alyssa loves painting and watching movies. She can probably quote any movie that she has ever seen… and that is a lot!
Any exiting news you want to share with us?
We are moving to Nashville, TN to pursue our music dreams. We got a home that we will all live in together and will have an in-home studio so we can make music all the time.
How’s a typical day in your life?
Currently, Dustin works in construction and builds and installs doors all day long, while Kyle teaches kids how to play guitar, and after that, Kyle comes home to produce other people’s music. Alyssa is a nanny currently, so after she watches kids, she comes home to make Dustin and her dinner and then we watch some TV or go to Kyle’s house to make music.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
We have grown up playing music in church for years, so every Sunday we have a routine of waking up early, playing at church, and then taking LONG naps, waking up to eat dinner and then going right back to sleep. Our ideal Sunday would probably be go to church, eat some good food, swim in the pool, and then sleep.
What is your favorite healthy food?
We are all on diets right now, so we eat healthy quite a lot. Kyle’s favorite healthy food is chicken and veggies, Dustin’s is Mahi Mahi and veggies, and Alyssa’s is Acai Bowls.
And your favorite cheat food?
OOO. We love us some unhealthy food. Our favorite place to eat is Taco Bell! Anything from that menu is Kyle and Alyssa’s favorite cheat meal, but Dustin’s favorite cheat is a Quarter Pounder from McDonalds as well. We could all eat Taco Bell for every meal of everyday. Actually, Dustin and Alyssa go to Taco Bell every year for Valentine’s Day.
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
I think we all can agree that when a person is on their phone, for sure is not getting a second date.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be?
Stan Lee for sure.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
We see ourselves on tour, living out our dream every day! We hope to be traveling, playing our music with the people we love.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Our style is basically semi-casual street wear. We like being comfy, but we like looking trendy at the same time.
What do you think of Social Media?
We think that social media is a powerful tool. Obviously, most of it is fake because people only post highlight reels of their lives, but it is such a big, powerful platform. It is powerful in the sense that great things can be spread around the globe in seconds, but the same can be said about hurtful words as well. We think it is important to think before commenting or posting something.
