Hi Cloe, please tell us a little about you?
Hey! I’m an indie artist. I’m 15 years old and I’m from Clearwater, Florida. I spend about half the time in LA.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Creative, sensitive, thoughtful.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I’d always been really into music, but didn’t take it seriously and didn’t write songs myself. I recorded a few covers when I was 11 and sent them around to some producers. This one producer liked them and invited me to my first writing camp. That’s where I learned to song write and where I fell in love with the idea of being an artist.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Honest, reflective, vulnerable.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I don’t come from a musical family, so I wasn’t nurtured into it and I didn’t have many musical figures in my life growing up. I guess I was influenced by myself and the artists I was listening to. Lana Del Rey raised me musically. I chose to make music because I love nothing else the way that I love it. From my perspective, it was the only option.
Do you ever get nervous?
Not really. I go numb in times of pressure – in a good way.
Tell us about your new single and video for “I Wanna Be Alone With You?”
I got to play into this cool, confident version of myself. The music video was me embodying her and how she carries herself. Plus, we skipped prom and broke into a motel.
What’s the story behind the song?
Writing “I Wanna Be Alone With You” was way out of my comfort zone, but it ended up being one of my favorites off of the EP. It was my take on awkward teenage romance. Like when you don’t know what to say, but you know what you want.
How was working with Tripp Bowers?
I really enjoyed working with Tripp. It’s always cool working with someone who can improvise well and have fun with it because then we can feed off of each other’s energy.
And what we can expect for the “Teenage Lullabies” EP?
You can expect one more music video off of the EP, more livestreams and virtual shows, and live shows as soon as that’s safe!!
Did you had plans/concerts planned and cancelled because of COVID? If so have you done any online concerts or interaction with your fans?
Yes! I had a tour scheduled for the Fall of last year. I’ve been trying to better my relationship with social media and use that in positive ways, like interacting with fans. I’ve done tons of virtual shows and live streams too, which gives me a little taste of “live” shows.
Which project is still on your bucket list?
I really want to make an album.
What’s next for Cloe Wilder in 2021?
I’ll keep up my virtual shows (hopefully live shows,) … for now, listen to my EP, Teenage Lullabies 🙂
What is you favorite song? And why?
There is so much music that I absolutely love. I don’t think I could possibly narrow it down.
Any loves other than music?
I love people.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I always answer Lana Del Rey, because I’m trying to manifest that!! Also, Johnny Cash. My grandpa got to meet him and I’m jealous.
Best advice ever given?
I haven’t heard it yet.
How’s a typical day in your life?
I do a little homework in the mornings, walk to get coffee, then I’ll probably head to a session and write for the rest of the day.
Name one your strengths?
I’m empathetic!
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
I haven’t had a Sunday with no homework in forever.
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Home – Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros.
What is your own definition of happiness?
My definition of happiness is writing real music that reaches real people.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself touring and having released a few albums. I want music to be my full-time job, so I’m working towards that. Once I’m done with high school, I really believe that will happen.
What do you think of Social Media?
I have a pretty jaded relationship with social media. I got started using Instagram professionally when I was 12, so I never had any fun with it. I still look at it that way. However, I think it’s a strong tool for small artists and I’ve learned to appreciate it because of that.
