Describe yourself in 3 words?
I would describe myself as passionate, funny, and emitting good energy.
We’re sure you have been asked this a million times but how did you get in the industry?
I was fortunate enough to work as an intern for CP Records when I was a teenager. Being so passionate about music and wanting to pursue it like the other artists on the label, I gave them my demo. After hearing my sound, the manager put me in the studio right away and, after 3 months, “Stereo Love” happened. My career took off from there and I haven’t looked back since.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
I like to think that my sound is angelic, upbeat, and has a beachy vibe to it.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
As a young girl, I was definitely influenced by Mariah Carey. Growing up, I was in constant awe of her and her voice. I would play her album over and over every single day! In choosing to make music, my parents saw my talent from a young age and pushed me to start piano lessons, singing lessons and to participate in every talent show possible. Watching people react to my talents and seeing how much joy my music brought to them was definitely a major influence of mine. I’m so passionate about making people feel good with music.
Do you play any instruments?
Yes! I play piano.
Do you ever get nervous?
I definitely used to get nervous, but I can’t say I do anymore. My love for performing outweighs nerves now.
Tell us about the success of your single “Different Kind of Love?”
I love “Different Kind of Love” a lot. We shot the music video in beautiful Santorini and it was such amazing experience. I’m so thankful for all of the love and support that the song and video have received.
What’s the story behind the song?
“Different Kind of Love” is about the feeling you get when you find your best friend and your love all in one person, and it’s a completely different type of connection.
Are you planning releasing new music this year?
Absolutely! I’m planning so many exciting things for this year and I can’t wait to share them.
Did you had plans/concerts planned and cancelled because of COVID? If so, have you done any online concerts or interaction with your fans?
Yes, I definitely had plans to travel worldwide before COVID hit. I had planned to perform in India, Pakistan, Turkey, France, and many more beautiful places on a world tour, but that has all been postponed. Luckily, I was able to do a few online performances last year, but I can’t wait to get back to performing for and interacting with my amazing fans in person.
Now tell us about Boss Up Your Life: A Girl’s Guide to Her Dream Career?
This book is definitely a guide to show women entrepreneurs the importance of female collaboration over competition, and how important a mentor is to your success!
In the book, we focus on instilling a winning mindset to help get your business on track to become a money-making machine.
How was working with award-winning author, publisher and successful serial entrepreneur Ky-Lee Hanson on this project?
Amazing. Ky-Lee is a complete expert, so the process was so much fun, and I learned a lot from her. That’s one of the main reasons why I wanted to collaborate with Ky-Lee; even though our roles are completely different, the key elements to running a successful business remain the same and we both have a lot of experience in that sense.
Which project is still on your bucket list?
I have so many projects that I still want to bring to life, but I would love to get into more TV, film and motivational speaking.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
My biggest reward is sharing my art with people all around the world and them sharing their experiences with me. Knowing that I can motivate and inspire strangers in so many places is such an amazing feeling. One of the challenges I face is wanting to help everyone with not enough resources. There is still so much to do, but not enough time in a day.
What’s next for Mia Martina in 2021?
2021 will bring more music, new products and projects and, hopefully, a return to live shows!
What is your favorite song? And why?
That’s a really tough question as I have so many favourite songs, but Hero by Mariah Carey is definitely a go-to of mine!
Any loves other than music?
I love anything art-related! I love creating and conveying a message through art, and the many different meanings that it can hold for each individual person.
Best advice ever given?
“Always stay true to yourself and follow your gut!”
How’s a typical day in your life?
A typical day for me usually starts with mediation right after I wake up. Then, I make a smoothie and head to the gym to get a workout in. After that, I start work for the day and, depending on my schedule, I might plan to see friends or family at night.
Name one your strengths?
I think one of my biggest strengths is that I work hard to be positive and resilient.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
My perfect Sunday would include sitting on the beach with a good book and a glass of wine.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
I love to jam out to anything by Toni Braxton.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Happiness comes when you’re at peace with yourself.
Do you support any charities?
Absolutely! I try to give back as much as I can. I love to work with charities and currently work with a number of them.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Definitely hummus and cucumber.
And your favorite cheat food?
Chips!
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
I’m a big animal-lover, so someone who doesn’t like animals would be a deal-breaker for me.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself living my best and happiest life, like I am now.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would say that my fashion style is versatile—I like to switch it up.
What do you think of Social Media?
I have a love/hate relationship with social media. Especially for the young generation, I think it can be extremely harmful because it makes them think that if they don’t have the perfect body, bag, car or life, they are failing. Meanwhile, their favourite influencer is probably going through struggles that they can’t see on-screen. But, by the same token, social media is great for business and for getting yourself out there. As long as you can focus on the good, stop comparing yourself to others and use it as a vision board for positivity, then I think it’s an amazing tool.
