Check out our interview with Germany/Italy-based Alt/Pop duo Anaté who just released their latest single “Nonsense (Remix)” by German DJ (Phillip Wolf) TODAY!. Composed of singer-songwriter Ana and central producer Andrea Del Miglio, Ana states: “Nonsense talks about the absurdity of life. More than that, about the absurdity of our constant struggles to give meaning to our lives. I do not believe life is meaningless, but I do believe that trying to find an explanation for everything is rather pointless. Most is nonsense and the purpose of life should be to live it, rather than to try to explain / understand it.”
Anaté was formed in 2019 when Andrea was searching for a vocalist to work with for a trip-hop project. When he could find no one who fit the bill, a friend suggested Ana, who ended up sending Andrea “an awesome melody and perfect lyrics”. Meeting for the first time in Brussels merely weeks later, the pair decided their musical chemistry was undeniable and continued to collaborate together. Ana lives between Paris and Berlin, and is a classically trained pianist. Andrea is based out of Milan, and in addition to producing, has a background playing guitar in various bands for over a decade. Anaté’s influences encompass a broad range of genres and artists, including brit-pop, trip-hop, Pink Floyd, Lenny Kravitz, Massive Attack, and Sade.

Hi Anaté, please tell us a little about you?
Berlin based, born in Romania, trained in classical piano since the age of 5, love music because of how it makes me move and feel, overly reflective and energetic gal
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Complex, curious, alive
How did you get started in the business?
I started as a lead singer, keyboards player and songwriter for a band called Idea while I was doing my bachelor in Romania. After that, had a long pause as I pursued my studies abroad. And then in 2018 I met Andrea, the producer and mastermind behind Anaté, and we started making music together ever since.
How has this changed your life?
The past years have made me become more self-aware, dare more, express more and feel more comfortable with who I am or what I want. I also hope that my work has brought joy to my listeners (or anything they need), as honestly this is the most important thing of it all.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
The same way I got started in the business 😀
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Multi-faceted, sort of dark / hypnotic, downtempo
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Life influenced me, basically. Felt like I had some things to say/reflect upon, and doing art felt the best way. I probably chose music because I had a close contact to it since a young age.
Do you play any instrument?
Yes, I play the piano.
Do you ever get nervous?
All the time. But I learned to use it to my advantage.
Tell us about your new single “Nonsense?”
It is a hypnotic song with sort of a dark twist that talks about everything and nothing at the same time, hence the title.
What’s the story behind the song?
To be more precise, Nonsense talks about the absurdity of life. More than that, about the absurdity of our constant struggles to give meaning to our lives. I do not believe life is meaningless, but I do believe that trying to find explanation for everything is rather pointless. Most is nonsense and the purpose of life should be to live it, rather than to try to explain / understand it.
And about the “Nonsense” Remix by German DJ Phillip Wolf?
Phillip did an awesome work in bringing forward that hypnotic vibe of Nonsense. We wanted for some time to do a remix of one of our songs and he did an amazing job.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
That I get to share stories with people who are willing to listen and reflect upon their stories as well.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
Instead of googling it and giving you an answer that I stole from there, I would much rather tell you that I honestly have no clue, never read a book about entrepreneurship haha. Would recommend “The subtle art of not giving a fuck” though, easy to read and takes some of the pressure off; pressure that can also come with anybody trying to “make it” in any field.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
To stop thinking about it and JUST DO IT.
How would your best friend describe you?
A mix of profound late-night talks and crazy nights out.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
“The constant search of oneself”.
What’s next for Anaté in 2021?
The release of our debut album and new music!
What is your favorite healthy food?
Fruit in general.
And your favorite cheat food?
Pizza (didn’t see that coming I’m sure haha)
How would you explain your fashion style?
Fluctuating haha. Between super casual, tomboy, to more glam rock.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Being loving and accepting towards who you are. Living comfortable in your own skin.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
David Bowie. I just love his complexity and his way of approaching art and self-expression.
Best advice ever given?
Stop taking yourself too seriously.
Do you support any charity?
Not yet but would be interested in anything dealing with mental health, childcare or environmental-related issues.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself having achieved something that I can finally be proud of, whatever that means.
Favorite song? Why?
Difficult to choose… maybe Bohemian Rhapsody. Because it just sounds too good to be real.
What do you think of Social Media?
Great way of promoting yourself and your work, but putting too much pressure on users to constantly be “on time”, “engaging” and “relevant” with their posts.
