Check out our interview with rapper, songwriter and producer JAXON who is releasing his upfront hip-hop, rap and jazz infused track “Devil’s In The Dog House” on February 4th!
When Jaxon was 18 he realized making music and his dream of connecting and effecting people with a positive influence was at his very core. He lives music. He breathes music.
Jaxon spends 12 hours a day, everyday, crafting his sound.
Jaxon composes, writes and performs all his songs with the help of an amazing band. It was a long time coming and a lot of time alone in the studio, but after a few months of searching through his internal labyrinth of creativity, Jaxon was able to find his dream band with some of the most skilled musicians he’s ever met… Frances Lovegood, Boogie Billingsly, Karl and De’man Dubois.

Hi Jaxon, please tell us a little about you
Hello! I am Jaxon and I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. All I ever wanted to do is make music but I do also love to surf and snowboard. I have the best family in the world and I am so so blessed for my mom, dad, sisters, and brother! My dream is to tour the world and just put out love and positivity with my music. I will make it or die trying.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Weird
Driven
Oblivious
How did you get started in the business?
Music all started with writing poems and freestyling with friends for me and then over time, it turned into making the beats and writing songs!
How has this changed your life?
In every way. I always say music is magic because it really is, it’s crazy how much it’s done for me and I don’t know where I’d be without it. The biggest thing though is definitely how it has become my passion. All I ever wanted was a passion, an obsession, and now that music is that for me everything just seems to make sense.
We’re sure you have been asked this a million times but how did you get into the industry?
I started releasing music just for shits and giggles because my friends wanted to hear them and they ended up doing pretty well. From there music went from a hobby to something I was serious about and now here we are with this new album coming out! And these songs are soooooooo much better!
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Mac/ Prince’s Baby
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Artist wise Mac Miller is my biggest inspiration. From the music itself to his work ethic, to his message. I just adore that man. On the relational side, my good friends Chase Jessup and Luke Mizell were the ones who inspired me, taught me, and pushed me to make music. They changed my life and I’m forever thankful for them!
Do you play any instrument?
Yes, I play bass, guitar, keys, and drums.
Do you ever get nervous?
All the time.
Tell us about your new single “Devil’s In The Dog House”?
Man, this song is really special. For starters, it’s one of the only songs on this album where I rap and I just love the verse and think it’s pretty funny haha. But man the beat is awesome and then the meaning too. When we say “The Devil’s In the Dog House” we mean life is good!! It’s imagining if the devil had a boss and when life is good the Devil’s in the dog house because he’s not doing his job of making our lives shitty.
What’s the story behind the song?
This idea came to me while I was in a tough spot in life, feeling pretty discouraged and overwhelmed about a music career, and my good friend Ben Barnett gave me the pep talk of a lifetime. He reminded us how we can still see and appreciate the good in life while in the midst of the bad and that’s what inspired this song. I made it the next day!
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Getting to do what I love and in turn, putting that love out into the world.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
Dream Big, Live Big, and Think Big by Kathryn Kronenberg.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Everyones not gonna like your music or even you and that is OKAY.
Life is really really short so work your ass off for what it is you love.
And as long as I keep making music and put it at the center of what I’m trying to do in this life, I will be fine.
How would your best friend describe you?
Weird as fuck hahaha, but nice and loving to I hope.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
“Don’t Stay Inside the Lines” hahaha I’ve never been asked this but for some reason, I think I’d be a coloring book where, as the title says, you don’t have to stay inside the lines.
What’s next for JAXON for 2022?
I have a new album “Lost and Found” coming out and I am very very excited about it! It will be out in June and this will be the album that changes my life!
What is your favorite healthy food?
The best sandwich in the world can be found at food heads here in Austin. It is called the chicken special sandwich and it is amazing!!
And your favorite cheat food?
Ice cream I guess but I eat it every day so at this point it’s more of a staple than a cheat hahaha.
How would you explain your fashion style?
I wear pretty much the same thing every day hahaha. I’m always in the studio so it’s just sweatpants and a white tee for me.
What is your definition of happiness?
Doing what I love surrounded by people I love!
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Mac Miller is easy. He is my hero in every sense of the word. He’s saved my life and changed my life and I’d just like to think him for that. (And maybe make a song;)
Best advice ever given?
I watched the movie “Bleed for This” recently with Miles Teller and in it he says something like “It is that simple, it is. It isn’t that simple is the lie they tell you to give up but if you work hard and just do it you will achieve.” SO yeah “It is that simple” is probably my favorite advice.
Do you support any charity?
Yes! At some point, I’d love to do a partnership with a charity for an album where I give a chunk of the money to them. I’m actually working on it now!
Where do you see yourself and your career 5 years from now?
In 5 years I will be touring the world, working with artists I look up to, and most importantly affecting the whole world in a positive way!
Favorite song? Why?
Man, that is a hard question. My favorite song is a tie between two and it would have to be Dunno by Mac Miller and Love by Kid Cudi.
What do you think of Social Media?
Hate it and I suck at it hahaha. It’s a shame because in this day and age to make it in music you have to be good at social media and I am just not.
Where we can follow you?
Well as I said I’m not good at social Media so I only have an Instagram! Here’s the link and then my Spotify link as well!
