Hi Sophia, please tell us a little about you?
I am an up and coming pop singer/songwriter born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I just released my fourth single and am currently getting ready to put out my fifth! I love writing, singing and dancing and am so grateful that I get to live out my dreams everyday as an Artist!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Confident, driven and spiritual.
How has this changed your life?
I’ve loved doing this since I was a kid. It’s amazing to return back to something you came in this life loving from the time you we’re young. Not only am I healing my inner-child every single day by pursuing my passion and dreams, but I’m loving life while doing so. I’m so in love with what I do, which makes life really exciting!
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I’ve been performing, singing and dancing since I was six years old. Everyone knew me as the little girl who couldn’t stop singing and dancing! I would write songs and ask anybody and everybody if they wanted to hear them. I loved being on stage and in front of the camera. I started dancing and soon got discovered in a class and signed to Bloc South Talent Agency. I sang in local choirs as well and tried to emerge myself in my passions since I was super duper young. I’m very blessed and grateful to know what I wanted to pursue since a young age.
Do you ever get nervous?
Of course! I’m nervous to put out my next single a little bit. It’s about heartbreak. But all in all, I’m excited. I get nervous sometimes, and try to just breathe and get through the nerves the best that I can!
Tell us about your new single “way i?”
My new single “way i” is a song about wanting to take it to the next level with someone that you have caught feelings for. They’re showing you all the signs, but not making a move. A vibey, R&B/soul track for when you need to get in the mood, light candles and lounge or simply connecting to the relatable, sensual message of desire and longing for more in a relationship.
What’s the story behind the song?
I wrote this song when I was super sexually-frustrated and longing for more with the person I caught feelings for. They we’re leading me on and even making me feel like they had more to give but weren’t actually making any moves to do so. It was a huge build up of pent up tension and to really get through the experience, I wrote ‘way i’ really naturally and fast. It definitely helped me heal through it and to understand my own feelings toward the situation better. Songwriting is that “release of therapy” for me.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I absolutely love writing music, and that’s how the process starts for me. It’s so beautiful to see the evolution of a song. How it can go from simple poetry, to building a melody, to recording it in the studio, to filming a music video and having the entire process be a reflection of the experience that inspired me to write the song. I just love making music! It’s amazing.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
To never give up no matter what. Each day is a new day to start over, and to conquer your dreams and soul’s purpose.
What’s next for Sophia Dashing for 2022?
Performing. I can’t wait to take the stage this year and to perform my music. COVID-19 cancelled a couple of my planned performances I was ready and lined up to do, so I’m even more excited and eager to get out on the stage and to do what I love!
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love a good smoothie. I love spinach and try to stay vegan as much as possible. Sometimes I have slip ups if I am traveling or out of my house, but always try to stay healthy! I workout every day so it’s important to me to have a conscious diet.
And your favorite cheat food?
I love Taco Bell. (Black Bean Crunch Wrap Supremes all the way).
What is your own definition of happiness?
The definition of happiness to me is shining your light and gifts into the world and not holding anything back while doing so. Being a positive force and remaining true to who you are regardless of who or what tries to stop you. To be a light and a voice in this world and to inspire and stand up for others. Living consciously and obtaining mindfulness!
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Britney Spears. She’s a huge inspiration for me. I actually met her in Vegas during her residency, but now with her being out of the conservatorship I would love to just sit and have dinner with her. I seriously love and respect her so much!
Best advice ever given?
That drive will take you where you need to go. To never take no for an answer, to always keep going no matter what. To have faith and pray often.
Do you support any charity?
I do! I am a huge LGBTQ+ advocate. I support The Human Rights Campaign and Lost n Found in Atlanta, GA. I volunteer at the Women’s Shelter in Atlanta, GA and am very passionate about equality and women’s rights.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
5 years from now I see myself performing and touring the world and making more music. Creating albums and bodies of work and art. I see myself being involved in many charities and also helping other independent artists with their craft and getting their artistry out there to bigger platforms. I also look forward to connecting and meeting my fans from all around the world!
Favorite song? Why?
One of my favorite songs of all time is “Spotless Mind” by Jhené Aiko. It’s all about embracing change and honoring inner-growth. It’s a super spiritual song and I feel like I connect with it very well based on my experiences in my life.
What do you think of Social Media?
Social media has impacted this culture in so many positive, and also in negative ways. I am an anti-bullying advocate and it breaks my heart to see how common cyber-bullying is found across all parts of Social Media and on the web. I will always use my voice on Social Media and speak up for those who struggle with and are being bullied online. Social media has been amazing for the connective aspect, enabling others to stay updated on their favorite friends or artists from across the world. A lot of people who have discovered my music online have been such a blessing, and I am grateful for the platform of Social Media as an emerging artist.
