Check out our interview with model & philanthropist Sydney Brett.
A model for NYFW, Hamptons Fashion Week, Brooklyn Fashion Week and more with titles USA National Ms. New York & more, Sydney is currently a college student studying fashion merchandising and marketing with a leadership fellow.
She founded Stronger Than You Think in 2017 after years of being bullied to help raise awareness of the direct correlation between mental health and bullying, as mental health issues lead to bullying and, in turn, bullying to mental health issues. Stronger Than You Think offers anti-bullying workshops, girls empowerment workshops, parent workshops and even an “Unfiltered Photo Shoot” where kids will partake in a raw, unfiltered photoshoot and discuss how social media impacts young people and their vision of beauty.

Hi Sydney, please tell us a little about you?
I am currently a college student studying fashion merchandising and marketing. I am from Long Island New York. My future career goal is to be a stylist at a fashion magazine. I have my own non-profit organization, called Stronger Than You Think. My interests include community service, traveling, fashion, beauty and modeling.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Compassionate, determined and outgoing
What is fun and rewarding about modeling?
I have only had positive experiences when it comes from modeling. Some of my favorite things that modeling has given me, is the friendships that I made, the people I have met and the opportunity to travel.
What did you learn from your biggest failure?
That it does not matter how many times I fall down it’s about how you handle yourself when you get back up.
The most important thing when you are shooting is?
Being on time, flexible and friendly.
Now talking about Instagram, can you share some tips for keeping your account interesting?
Post what you like and what you are interested in as opposed to what everyone else is doing.
Now tell us about your on-profit “Stronger Than You Think?”
It is a 501C(3) organization who aims to equip kids with the tools they need to be confident in who they are. At the core of the organization, it teaches kids to be kind to themselves and others. The organization seeks to stop hate by educating schools, students and parents about the importance of diversity and inclusion. It merges together the importance of anti-bullying and mental health awareness.

Name 3 things you can’t live without?

Pop music
What do you think of Social Media?
I have a love hate relationship with social media. The pros being connecting with friends and family, growing a platform and raising awareness for important issues and sharing your interests. The cons are the high standards society puts on us and constantly comparing yourself to others, as well as you do not get to see what someone’s life is really about because we only share the good stuff.
