Describe yourself in 3 words?
Honest, vulnerable, expressive
How did you get started in the business?
Growing up I was always performing locally or auditioning in NYC. I began writing music at 15 and have been working on music and my artistry since then. I was on season 3 of American Idol and since then began recording and releasing my own stuff.
How has this changed your life?
I have had the chance to grow into and discover who I am as an artist which has been my favorite journey yet!
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
Growing up I was always performing locally or auditioning in NYC. I began writing music at 15 and have been working on music and my artistry since then. I was on season 3 of American Idol and since then began recording and releasing my own stuff.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Electric, Vibrant, Fun
Do you play any instrument?
None
Do you ever get nervous?
I get nervous when I sing a song with heavy emotional weight… I tend to lose myself and focus on storytelling which comes with a level of vulnerability.
Tell us your new single “Sideshow?”
What’s the story behind the song? Sideshow is a song that was a long time coming. I wrote and rewrote this song in a time of my life where I felt I was on an emotional rollercoaster riding a wave of unrequited love with someone who only saw me as one of many. The song reflects the mental and emotional turmoil of staying somewhere you know you don’t belong, and holding onto the past though you know the ending is near.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is hearing from someone who was able to resonate/relate to something in the song. Reaching other people and telling a story is the most important thing to me
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
The greatest lesson I learned so far is to do what you want and not listen to anyone else. You know yourself best and as an artist, the most important thing is to do what is authentic and true to you regardless of what anyone else thinks.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Do what you want. DO everything everyone told you that you cannot or should not do. Do it loudly and as for forgiveness not permission.
How would your best friend describe you?
My friends would describe me as the life of the party but the one at the party who has everyones back. I am positive, upbeat, extroverted, loyal, direct, and honest.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Don’t ask for permission – as for forgiveness.
What’s next for Sabrina Monique in 2022?
Get ready for more music, new videos, and live shows!!
What is your favorite healthy food?
I probably eat salmon with eggs and avocado everyday lol
And your favorite cheat food?
Blue and yellow Sour patch
How would you explain your fashion style?
My fashion style is whatever I’m feeling. I definitely teeder on a line of super girly to super edgy
What is your own definition of happiness?
My definition of happiness is being at peace with myself.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would like to meet Amy Winehouse. She is one of my biggest musical inspirations.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
My dream holiday would be sailing around the world going wherever I wanted
Best advice ever given?
Don’t ask for permission, ask for forgiveness.
Do you support any charity?
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now? I see myself releasing music, playing shows, and performing all over.
Favorite song? Why?
I think it’s impossible to have a favorite song.
Songs relate to certain emotions and you will connect to music differently every time you hear it. I guess what I’m saying is it all depends on where I am at in the moment and time that you ask me what my favorite song is lol…
What do you think of Social Media?
As much as I hate social media. I love it. I also love to hate it lol I love being able to post, connect with, and meet so many musicians, artists as well as connect with fans. It is a great way to share your music, show a more personal side of yourself.
