Describe yourself in 3 words?
Optimistic, Dreamer, Sensitive
How did you get started in the business?
I started playing piano as a way to process grief. Then, I switched to ukulele and guitar to write about a bad breakup. I never planned on sharing the songs I wrote, but one day I did. It felt so freeing.
How has this changed your life?
Writing music has not only allowed me to fully express myself, but it’s given me a platform to speak about mental health and LGBTQ+ issues as well. I’m very grateful for my supportive community.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Feel better now
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
My Papa. He always finds time to play his guitar and sing, no matter what’s going on. I’ve continued to play music because it’s truly helped me feel like my most authentic self. I was always the quiet kid, but once I stepped on stage, something came alive. I felt like I could say anything with a mic in my hand.
Tell us your new single “Don’t It Feel Good?”
After spending most of the last two years at home, I really started to feel my insecurities and self-doubts come back when I started to socialize again. But now, I finally feel ready to get back out there and explore and have FUN. This song is about being spontaneous and reveling in the beauty of new experiences.
What is the feeling like to have over 5 million streams? That’s amazing!
I’m very grateful to all my fans for streaming my music. As an indie artist, it means a lot when people add me to their personal playlists. I love seeing the playlists titles and hearing how my music has helped them feel a bit better.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Community. I’ve met really wonderful people through my online community and at our shows.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
The only thing in your way is you. I struggle with self-doubt and anxiety and it often prevents me from enjoying the little things. Taking care of your mental health should always come first.
What’s next for Lucy & La Mer in 2022?
I’m looking forward to playing shows again and reconnecting with fans
What is your favorite healthy food?
Bananas. I could eat like 5 bananas in a day. They’re the ultimate on-the-go snack.
And your favorite cheat food?
All food is ok! I try not to label food as good or bad. But a dessert I try to moderate would be cookie dough ice cream.

Vintage rainbow with a modern mention

Trusting yourself
