Hi Zaryah, please tell us a little about you?
Hii I’m Zaryah, originally from Luxembourg but now in LA and I love to write sultry pop songs for the femme fatale!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Fierce, unapologetic, confident
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I actually only started making music professionally in 2019. I was supposed to come visit LA for a 2 week stay but ended up meeting Simon Jay and Luke Shrestha (my producers) and loved the process so much that I decided to focus on my music and stayed!
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Sultry, confident, impactful
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
My biggest influences were all powerful pop icons. From Christina Aguilera to Anastasia to Lady Gaga, anybody who wasn’t afraid to be themselves. I think music is such a powerful tool and so I just hope to empower some people the same way they did me.
Do you play any instrument?
Very badly but yes I play the guitar just enough to write songs with it lol
Do you ever get nervous?
Absolutely! I get the most nervous when I start doubting myself. So lately I’ve been trying to reconnect with the reason why I started music in the first place and try to turn that nervous energy into excitement instead. And it actually has been helping a lot!
Tell us about your new single “Society Of Men?”
SOCIETY OF MEN is such an important release to me, especially during these times.. It talks about the worst parts of living in a patriarchal society, so I hope that some people will feel heard and understood and most importantly empowered to stand up for themselves.
What’s the story behind the song?
We started writing it back in 2019 but it never felt quite ready yet. With everything that went on this year it felt like the right time to revisit the song and make its statement as clear and forward as possible.
Which project is still on your bucket list?
I have so many ideas for upcoming singles and albums. I definitely want to keep creating concept albums where the story line and sound throughout is well thought out and flows nicely. And of course I have so many collaborations I can’t wait to do!
What is fun and rewarding about what you do?
The most rewarding thing and honestly the biggest reason why I make music is when people reach out to me and explain that they feel SEEN. It really is the best feeling every single time and I cannot wait to meet these amazing people in real life.
What’s next for Zaryah in 2022?
I definitely see myself being in the studio A LOT. I want to create my next concept album and already have so many ideas in which direction it’ll go. Currently working on merch and I definitely will also be releasing a couple more singles with hopefully some music videos too!
What is your favorite song? And why?
There is no way I could ever pick one favorite song – every mood has a different go-to though! If I need to calm myself down it’s definitely Say (All I Need) by OneRepublic, anything by Jessie Reyez for when I need a confidence boost and a song that always makes me feel better is Back to you by Selena Gomez (it’s so nostalgic to me).
Any loves other than music?
I love to cook, love the ocean and I love fashion! Definitely aiming to have my own brand eventually!
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
I would tell her how proud I am of her and that she does not need to feel ashamed or embarrassed due to the things that happened to her. I think when we’re young we blame ourselves a lot for things that are out of our control so yes I would definitely try to give her as much peace as I could.
Best advice ever given?
‘You really don’t live for anybody else but yourself’ and ‘be kind to people, but strong for yourself’
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Because Of You by Kelly Clarkson, no doubt.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Happiness to me is letting go of the things I can’t control, feeling free and feeling grateful for the people and things I have in my life.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I don’t know if they’re actually that healthy but cotton candy grapes are the best thing ever.
And your favorite cheat food?
Pizza and chocolate!!
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
When they don’t respect the waiter or my boundaries.
What do you think of Social Media?
Social media is honestly a super useful tool especially for when you are a creative person or business trying to promote your brand. It’s also amazing for raising awareness and spreading important messages on a larger scale, however there are definitely some downsides such as haters etc. But in comparison to what you can do with it, the upsides far outweigh the downsides.
