Check out our interview with Atlanta’s up-and-coming pop artist Kayla Williams who will be releasing her debut single “Indifferent” tomorrow.
This Electronic pop track is an anthem for those who have been hurt so many times that they have become “Indifferent” to that pain. “You blew out all of my fire, but you made me burn brighter.” It’s a song written for those who experienced pain over and over but used that as ignition to become their best self. This track combines a dark/eerie vibe with strong harmonies and atmospherical vocal chops, as it’s a mesh of multiple genres it carries a unique sound.

Hi Kayla, please tell us a little about you?
Hi! My name is Kayla Williams, and I am an Electro-pop singer-song-writer based in Atlanta, Georgia. I was born in Virginia, but spent a majority of my life raised overseas in 5 countries spanning Central America, South America and Africa. The music I make is heavily inspired by the music I heard during my time living abroad. Creating music is one of my greatest passions, and I am so excited to be on this path where I am doing something that I truly love.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Generous, determined, resilient
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Cinematic, ambient, mysterious
Do you play any instruments?
Yes! I started playing the piano in the 4th grade, and since then its always been my favorite instrument. My parents bought me a guitar a few years back and that is on my list of things to do next, to add that to my music repertoire.
Tell us about your new single “Indifferent?”
I have written so many songs, but I knew when I finished “Indifferent” it had to be released as my debut single. I didn’t write this song about anyone in particular but rather about several different situations I experienced. Indifferent” is about being played or hurt by someone over and over to the point where you become “Indifferent” to that pain and use it as ignition to become a better version of yourself. It’s about reaching your full potential on your own without someone holding you back. Personally when I listen to this song it inspires me to keep pushing to be the best I can be.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The process of making music is extremely enjoyable and there are so many rewards that come from working in this industry. Being in the studio surrounded by exceptionally talented artists and producers is very inspiring. When it comes to a song, just seeing how everything comes together in the end is insane and to see my words go from paper to a whole vibey production is amazing! Also, showing my family and friends new music and seeing how they react is always a blessing as well.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
“Before something great is achieved your comfort zone must be disturbed.” I’ve learned that to accomplish my goals, I must step out of my comfort zone and take risks. I can’t be afraid of failure; but accept and learn from it. If something doesn’t go as expected, I use that as motivation to keep going.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Literally, do what you want without being limited by what “you think” others will think of you. If you want to make music, do it! If you want to create a youtube channel, write a book, or start a business, do it! Don’t miss out on your dreams because you are scared of what others will think.
What’s next for Kayla Williams in the last months of 2022?
I’m currently working on a few songs and my next single will be released in November! I also have some upcoming performances here in Atlanta.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Hummus and Pita
And your favorite cheat food?
Flaming hot cheetos
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Michael Jackson, he was such a great performer, a musical genius, and touched the hearts of so many people with his many talented ways.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
In 5 years, I plan to have released a couple of albums and music videos. I also can’t wait to travel to share my music with the world and perform in front of those who can relate to my music. Hopefully, I will have accomplished some of my dream collaborations with my favorite artists.
Favorite song? Why?
I have so many favorite songs, it’d be impossible to narrow it down to one, but some of my all-time favorite artists are Michael Jackson, Alicia Key, Banks, Chase Atlantic, Birdy, Halsey and Lykke Li to name a few.
