“cringe!” is a vulnerable take on a coming of age feeling. With driving guitar and dreamy synths, Carly embodies the feeling of falling in young love and all the not so sweet moments that come with it. The release is accompanied by a music video with conception and direction from Carly herself and acclaimed videographer Jacqueline Day. This is Carly’s third release this year, which will lead to her sophomore EP in the near future.

Describe yourself in 3 words?
Kind, outgoing, creative
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I started writing songs since I started learning to speak. The need to express myself through music has always been in me, when choosing a career to pursue it was never even a question.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
dreamy, lyrical, reflective
Do you ever get nervous?
I do when I’m about to perform still, but they’re like the good kind of butterflies that make me smile and get excited.
Tell us about your new single “cringe?”
I love this song! I tried to capture the feeling of a coming of age movie in production and in the music video.
What’s the story behind the song?
This song means alot to me. I met someone who made me feel like falling in love again was possible. It was so innocent and unexpected it reminded me of the first time I fell in love as a teenager and all the uncomfortable and of course cringy moments that come along with figuring out how to be with a new person. “Cringe” is about that pit in your stomach that comes with a new unknown.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I can process what I’m feeling good, bad or ugly and turn it into something beautiful.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
To not care what people think about you so much and just do what you fucking want! I feel like I wasted so much time caring what people thought about me instead of just living and doing what makes me happy.
What’s next for Carly Butler in the last months of 2022 and for 2023?
We’re looking towards and EP release by the end of the year. The next single is an emotional and raw ballad set to release in the next few weeks.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Mushrooms are a main part of my diet
And your favorite cheat food?
A shrimp burrito it just hits everytime
Best advice ever given?
You only have this moment once, be present.
Favorite song? Why?
Stop this Train by John Mayer. It is one of the most beautifully written songs about the human condition.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media can be such a tool for good, but I think it has become a very toxic place. I think there will be huge swing against social media soon and I really hope we can start to separate our realities from the internet again.
