Check out our interview with Singer/Songwriter Cashma who just released her new album “Sophisticated Mess” today.
Her new “Sophisticated Mess” album is the result of embracing all sides of herself. Cashma confides, “Some days I feel sophisticated and super confident; other days I feel messy, like I don’t have it all together. I wanted this project to be the embodiment of both those emotions. To not only love myself at my highs but feel myself at my lows.”
Working alongside producer Mike Kalombo Sophisticated Mess takes you on an emotional roller coaster. Silky, soulful vocals, immersive songwriting and raw, hypnotic melodies provide the foundations for the album, with Cashma showcasing her velvet vocal tone and ability to pen vulnerable R&B anthems.
Sophisticated Mess is the fourth album for the songstress and sees the artist challenging herself to be raw and vulnerable with her feelings.

Hi Cashma, we did an interview a few months back, so tell us what’s new?
Hi Naluda, Thanks for having me back on! I recently released my fourth album Sophisticated Mess and I’m having a good time dropping the visuals.
Tell us about your new album “Sophisticated Mess?”
I wanted to merge the two feelings I’ve been having lately; feeling like I have it together one day and completely the opposite the next. I think that’s been the theme of my early 20’s. I wanted to marry the two and subconsciously love myself through all those feelings.
What’s the story behind the songs?
Playing off the title Sophisticated mess I would say it’s all over the place yet beautifully arranged. It’s an ensemble of emotional roller coasters. The feelings we all feel but maybe don’t say.
Mention 3 words on why this new album is different from your previous album?
Took. it. there. [Laughs]
I took it there emotionally. My last album “Purple Apartment” I was just getting out on my own but this one feels more in my feelings and body than I’ve ever been. I think it really shined through in the emotion. Plus I shot a visual for each song so the audience gets to visually see the music come to life.
And about the huge success of your previous album “Purple Apartment?”
I think Purple Apartment was a becoming. I had moved out on my own for the first time and getting to write an album that I know people can listen to years down the line when they’re moving into their first place or falling in love or becoming into their womanhood makes me excited. It’s the longevity of the music that really speaks to success to me.
Describe your creative process when you write new music?
I’m really introspective when I create so a lot of things come from what I’m feeling or what I’ve felt
Who’s your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?
Mike Kalombo; the producer that’s done my whole music catalog. I think he’s the g.o.a.t in this music thing and definitely brings out the best in me. We’ve been building our sound since 2017 and I think that’s important as an artist. Getting with a team and sticking with them.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The making. I love making music. There’s nothing like it.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
You can never go wrong being yourself. Don’t budge. It’s better to go out being yourself with a few people who loved you , than to go out not being yourself with lots of people who loved a false version of you.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Keep working you’ll thank yourself for it.
How would your best friend describe you?
Probably creative and caring.
What’s next for Cashma in the last months of 2022 and for 2023?
Indulging and taking life all in. I’ll also be releasing more visuals for my new album.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I think just living in my truth and doing what I need to do while I’m here. Creating my art and loving the people I love immensely.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
At my house. I’m such a simple girl [laughs]. Surrounded by my close friends and a good meal I’ve cooked.
Best advice ever given?
Enjoy the journey.
Do you support any charity?
Yes. My most recent is UNICEF. I always loved what they do.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself still happy. That’s really all I really care to be. Whatever comes from me being in my element and my joy will be well worked for and right on time.
Favorite song? Why?
Right now it’s “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush. I just had a moment the other day where I listened to it again and gosh let’s just say songwriting and voice of an angel.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it’s cool that you can connect to those that love your art all the while staying at home. It feels good that I can release music from the comfort of my space.
Where we can follow you?
Well all of my music is on streaming platforms as Cashma. Listen at your own discretion may cause feel good feelings. 🙂
