I started music way back as a teenager choir member but later decided to take it more professionally in my early 20s and never looked back.
How has this changed your life?
Music took me out of our local rural community in Lagos and changed my poverty mindset. But most importantly music gave me a platform to impact the world positively.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
My sound is energetic, inspiring and uplifting.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I was greatly inspired by the late Afrobeat legend- Fela Anikulapo Kuti and also the great Bob Marley. And a mixture of so many great musicians. I love to tell people, Music choose me and I’m glad it did.
Do you play any instrument?
No I don’t
Tell us about your new single “Count Your Blessings?”
Count Your Blessings is a very special song and I’m so happy to see millions of people enjoying it all over the world.
What’s the story behind the song?
Count Your Blessings is a very special song. When I wrote this song, I was at a dark place in my heart. So many things weren’t working out for me. I was frustrated and confused on how I will achieve my career dreams.
I went out for my morning walk one day and while I was walking I heard quiet voice in my heart say “Count your blessings” and Don’t allow what you’re expecting distract you from appreciating what you already have. So I started counting all my little/big blessings around me.
How was working with Grammy award-winning Jamaican Dancehall legend Beenie Man for the hit remix?
Working with Beenie Man is a big dream come true for me. He has a great, humble and fun personality. I was so excited to see him and he said to me “ I’m just as excited as you too” during the video shoot in Kingston Jamaica.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Just seeing people from all over the world enjoying my song. People send me all kinds of messages on how my song is helping them through cancer, depression, anxiety, and so on. Im beyond grateful to be able to touch people like that.
Now tell us about Ling & Lamb and how is working with Taccara Rae?
First and foremost Taccara (Ling) is the greatest gift God ever gave me. Im grateful to share my life with her. Working together is very easy cos we are best friends apart from being a couple. She’s extremely supportive and intelligent. We balance each other perfectly and we are grateful for the Ling and Lamb brand we have built together. Ling and Lamb started just from sharing our experiences and the world fell in love with us. What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Don’t allow what you’re expecting or hoping for distract you from appreciating what you have now.
Don’t ever sacrifice your peace of mind for material possessions.
Be content and don’t allow competition to steal your joy. Consistency is more important than speed.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Truly wouldn’t change anything about my younger self. All of my mistakes have shaped me into who I’m today.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
CONSISTENCY IS THE SECRET – When I think about my life journey from my local community in Lagos Nigeria to seeing my song premiere on one of the biggest billboard in Times Square just last week. I’m grateful I never gave up on my music dreams.

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I want to meet Jay Z so bad. He’s blessed with so much wisdom and I just want to learn more from him.
Best advice ever given?
Enjoy the process of your journey. Your time will come.

I dedicated my music to supporting prisoners back in Nigeria. I organized charity concerts in prisons and also used my platform to fight for freedom/ Justice for wrongfully imprisoned me and women. Which is what also opened the opportunity for me to come to the U.S. for the first time in 2018. When I came for a fund raise concert to support my prison project Nigeria. I also, visited 5 correctional facilities in the U.S. and one in the U.K.
