Hi Katy, please tell us a little about yourself?
Hello Naluda Magazine readers! Nice to meet you! I’m Katy Rise, DJ & producer from Ukraine, currently based in Turkey; an amazing beautiful country with a great people.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I was always into the music and it’s always been a big part of my life. But it all started in 2016, when I met my husband & manager, who has experience in this sphere for around 20 years now. He taught me everything I know now about DJing, and that it’s all about skills, practice and patience for it. Since that moment I’m into it and really grateful that I’m doing what I love.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Euphoric, Melodic, Progressive
Which artists and styles inspired and influenced you?
Trance music and artists like Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto and Above & Beyond have definitely made a huge impact on me and my music taste since I was a teenager. Basically, it gave me love and knowledge for electronic music in all. For this moment, I’m still a big fan of Trance for sure, but in producing, my heart belongs for Progressive House & Melodic Techno now. I think it’s all connected.
When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
To be honest, after all the partying is over usually I’m hungry. I suppose it’s like compensation for lost energy and of course good sleep always a good idea.
Best stage you have ever played on?
It was 2022 in Turkey, Oludeniz, for Electronic Music Festival. In Babadag mountains on 1800m height, main stage was on 1200m height. On lineup together with Echonomist, Fur Coat, Moonwalk, Rafael Cerato and more. I’m not scared of heights at all, but on the way to the top I couldn’t help but be aware of the fact that below me was just a mountainside, sharp and rocky. It was a breathtaking view and an amazing crowd over there.
What’s your favorite club to DJ in?
The best stage for me is where I can share my energy and music with people who are open for it. Doesn’t matter if it’s club or festival stages, it’s all about the people & crowd.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
For me it’s a lifestyle already. First, I’m a DJ and after Producer, but both of these are bringing me endless feeling of love, joy and a rewarding feeling into my life. Of course, there’s a moments of up and downs, when you need to recharge yourself to get back with more power and inspiration, but I think it can be in all life & working spheres.
What’s next for Katy Rise in 2023?
The year just started, but I’m already feeling like time is running away under my feet. A lot of plans are made for this year and I hope to make them all come true as soon. And the closest time, new releases, collaborations, new DJ mixes on my YouTube channel, tour dates and news to come.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Never give up! And even if it seems to you that it’s impossible to achieve, just choose a different path, but not your goal. Life is one and that is the goal.
Name one your strengths?
Perseverance.
And one of your weaknesses?
Gullibility
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
Perfect Sundays can have a different light. It can be sunny day, on the beach with my dogs; it can be working, traveling somewhere or just rainy day, chilling with some movies and good music.
What is your own definition of happiness?
For me happiness is in the moments of life, in the little things, in love for yourself and others, for what you do, and what brings you this joy and happiness in life. It can be different things, but if you learn how appreciate it and be grateful for it you can be happy.
Do you support any charities?
As you know I am from Ukraine, where the war is still going on. Since the beginning of all events, I have been trying to support not only my family and loved ones who are living there, but also the Ukrainian army and, of course, animals! Because they can’t help themselves. All donations should be made only from trusted sources and funds. And the best we can do is to work as hard as possible so that we can help ourselves and others.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Probably it will be greens or salad with avocado. I am for a healthy lifestyle and nutrition. But I’m always trying to listen my body, what its needed most.
And your favorite cheat food?
Some days can be blackouts from healthy food and for sure it can be some pizza margarita with onions and garlic, chips and chocolates.
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
My first date was a pretty long time ago (haha) but I think it can be the first manifestation of selfishness and ego. When a person sees only him/her-self, such a person is definitely not ready for a relationship of any kind.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Pretty private question, but I’m here to be honest. It would be my parents. They both died some years ago, but we were close with each other and they always supported me. I wish they could be proud of me now.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
We are living in a time when you can’t be sure even in tomorrow. But anyway, you need to be ready for it. Of course, I have a big plan for tomorrow and the next 5 years! How people say, if you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans. So, we are here and now, let’s do our best to make the future much better and brighter.
How would you describe your fashion style?
It’s just me, myself and I (haha). I am always trying to listen myself, my intuition and my mood. Sometimes it can be dark shades, with leather jacket and boots, which more suits my profession. But it can also be some classical light mode or just jeans, denim style. I’m not running for the latest trends, because it’s always change, but I like to know what is in fashion now.
