Describe yourself in 3 words. How would your best friend describe you?
Motivated, Loyal, and Genuine.
How did you get into the industry? What artists influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I started singing when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I always felt a special connection to music and found that I was happiest when I was singing or doing something involving music. I started to take it more seriously than a hobby at around age 11, but ultimately I started making and recording music about 4 years ago and all of my songs with Poo Bear have been recorded within the past year and a half.
My biggest musical influences are Justin Bieber, Poo Bear, Post Malone, The Kid Laroi, Ty Dolla $ign, Chris Brown, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and Frank Sinatra. Not necessarily all in order, but definitely Justin, Poo, and Post are my top 3 and have had the biggest impact on me as an artist. I chose to make music because I feel like I’m doing what I was always meant to do. I also feel that a lot of people connect with my sound and if it could make their day better or make them feel heard, that’s my goal. Connecting with my fans is something that is really important to me.
Describe your sound in 3 words.
Pop-soul, R&B, bass.
Tell us about your new single “Straight Face”? What’s the story behind the song?
Man, I heard the beat to “Straight Face” the first time in LA at Poo Bear’s studio. All of the melodies and frequencies in it went crazy and I fell in love with the sound. I needed to record the track and we cut it in about an hour. I just felt that it perfectly embodied the energy and feeling that I want to enter the industry with.
Describe your experience shooting your first music video for “Straight Face.”
My experience shooting the music video for “Straight Face” was a blast. A hectic time turned into a really good shoot day and everyone crushed it. I think that the video captures all of the sporadic and chaotic times of a relationship, any type of relationship, whether it is your significant other, family, or friends. And I think that my role in the music video was to just have a good time during all of the chaos and stay dedicated to continue a strong bond in the relationship, hence “letting loose,” as that is needed every once in a while.
What was it like working with GRAMMY-nominated songwriter and producer Poo Bear (Justin Bieber, Usher, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez)?
From meeting Poo Bear to establishing a really good friendship, recording with him has always been a 1 of 1 type of experience. He is one of the most prolific songwriters of our generation and the writing process in the studio with him is so freeform and almost turns out to feel effortless. It’s as if everything that we are bouncing back and forth was meant to be put on the song. Obviously there are some hiccups involving recording and vocals, but Poo is always really encouraging and has the most positive energy about him.
Do you play any instruments or are there any you’d like to learn?
I play piano, keyboard, and a little bit of guitar. One instrument I would love to learn is the saxophone.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is after I put out a record, I get to release my time capsule of a moment in the form of a song and have people all around the world connect with it. Giving people a safe space and connecting with others using music is amazing.
If you were a book, what would the title of it be and why?
If I were a book, my title would be Marco Giovanni’s Melodies. I feel that this covers the fact that I am musically inclined and also is a cool name for a book that consists of relating songs and lyrics to specific times and memories.
How would you explain your fashion style?
I would describe my fashion style as “casual streetwear with a touch of modern luxury.”
What is your own definition of happiness?
My definition of happiness would be continuing relationships and protecting your loved ones and friends. Also living in the moment with those around you, have fun.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would definitely choose Justin Bieber as he has been my favorite artist since around 2010 and he has had such a big impact on my musical career. I think that we’d be boys.
Best advice someone has ever given you?
That the roadblocks and bumps are necessary to reach your end goal. They are necessary to see what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong, stay persistent. What you put out into the universe comes back in some sort of way.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
“Come Around Me” or “ETA” by Justin Bieber.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself selling out arenas all over the world, having increased chemistry with fans, and continuing to release music for all of my fans and everyone to listen to.
What’s next for Marco Giovanni in 2023?
A whole lot is to come in 2023 for Marco Giovanni. Be on the lookout for much more new music, pictures, and music videos. And maaaybe some video of me bumping songs, working out, or being in my car lol.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media is really a key feature and a necessary tool to have these days. It is so cool to be able to post something and have all of these people that support you and your dream have the ability to interact with it. I think that it is really important for gaining chemistry with my fans and learning about each other. Kind of becoming friends in a way.
