Hi Dea, please tell us a little about you?
Hello, I’m Dea! I’m 23 and am from South West London. I’m a singer/songwriter and my favourite colour is green haha.

Direct

Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Having a father who is a musician and Mother who loves music there was always something playing in our house. I guess my love for music started when I became obsessed with Mcfly and Avril Lavigne when I was very little. I used to jump up and down on my bed singing along to my pink CD player. I was always very sensitive and somewhat dramatic so it was no surprise that my singing led to songwriting.
Do you play any instrument?
I had piano lessons from a young age however the birth of my songwriting began with the few chords my Dad taught me on the guitar. I wrote my first song at 9 which only consisted of G, E minor. It was absolutely rubbish but something definitely ignited in me.
Do you ever get nervous?
God I get SO nervous especially when playing gigs. The whole day leading up to a gig I physically can not eat or relax but once I’m up there I’m having a great time.
Tell us about your new single “Over You?”
I wrote this song after a breakup. I remember feeling really numb and somewhat relieved like this sense of freedom. One of my favourite parts of the song is the sound of children playing at the beginning and the end ; I could say that it has some deep meaningful reason for being there but my producer Ed and I just thought it sounded cool.
What’s the story behind the song?
It was about leaving a toxic relationship and feeling relieved. I remember thinking well if I can get over that I can get over anyone. It was liberating. I do then change my mind at the end of the song and question whether I truly am over them which I naturally also did in real life too.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I think the sensation after writing a really good song and the excitement and anticipation of taking that to the studio.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I’d like to say I have a good answer for this one but I’m much more a fiction reader and a romantic so my favourite books probably aren’t great advice for entrepreneurs.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Ignore all the music everyone else around you is making. It’s not uncool to write pop songs. I would also tell myself that I do eventually have boyfriends so I don’t have to make up love songs forever.
How would your best friend describe you?
Haha probably a bad influence, a shopaholic and a little bit chaotic. Just like her.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Probably something about being clumsy, I’m horrifically accident prone and completely lack spacial awareness.
What’s next for Dea Doyle in 2023?
Another single is in the pipeline so hopefully that should be out soon, I’m really really excited about this one ! I think it might be one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written!
What is your favorite healthy food?
My mum’s prawn salad.
And your favorite cheat food?
Crisps, especially salt & vinegar. I’ve never met a crisp I don’t like.
How would you explain your fashion style?
It’s very eclectic. I adore second hand and vintage clothing, especially jackets & cowboy boots. I feel like it depends on the day. Some days I’m channeling Stevie nicks and doing a whole 70’s vibe and the other days it’s very y2k and a bit grungy. I love shopping, I have about 10 Vinted parcels arrive every week! Pretty much everything I own is from Vinted or a charity shop.
What is your own definition of happiness?
A beer in the sunshine
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I think it would be Christine Mcvie from Fleetwood Mac. I was devastated by her recent death. I think she is one of the best female songwriters of all time, nobody can write a chorus like her.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
My dream holiday would be probably to go to New York and I would take my best friend Grace so we could pretend we’re in Sex and the City
Best advice ever given?
Take everything and nothing personally
Do you support any charity?
My whole wardrobe is from charity shops if that counts.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I would love to be able to make a sustainable wage from my music.
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
I’m not the biggest fan of karaoke if I’m completely honest. I think if you can’t sing it’s just brutal and if you can then it’s a bit cringey. Having said that if I really have to, I sing foundations by Kate Nash, always so fun.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it can be great for exposure or just documenting your life however it can be really harmful in other ways. I try not to take it too seriously and just post what I want and have fun with it.
