Describe yourself in 3 words.
Indefatigable, empathetic, driven.
We’re sure you have been asked this a million times, but how did you get in the industry?
I actually got into the industry out of the blue. Right when I graduated I was doing many things such as directing, making clothes, making props, writing poetry, and then doing different types of projects, and one day I found myself leaning towards music, mixing all of those components into one.
How has this changed your life?
This has changed my life in so many ways. I feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose and being the person someone needs in their life giving me more responsibilities in the most amazing way. I’m forever grateful to be able to share my journey and have such amazing supporters giving me an outlet and feeling free.
Describe your sound in 3 words.
Inspirational, fun, purpose.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Music found me. I found myself really sharing with others and this way seemed to be another step on the way. Seeing Micheal Jackson’s projects and all the different components to them and the way he told stories inspired me on a different level of creativity.
Do you play any instruments?
I play a little bit of guitar.
Do you ever get nervous?
I wouldn’t call it nervous, I would call it an adrenaline rush for sure. It’s like when you’re about to go cliff jumping and right before you jump into the water you’re like “oh snap oh oh.” That is the rush I feel.
Tell us about your new single “Bad Day Not Life?”
“Bad Day Not Life” is a feel-good, fun, type of pop record. It gives off a vital message to EVERYONE.
What’s the story behind the song?
The song “Bad Day Not Life” came upon a series of bad days. When it was raining, it was pouring, and I would tell myself “It’s just a bad day not life Emika, just a bad day.” When you have a bad day you just feel like you’re in a hamster wheel and you just keep spinning but not getting anywhere and your head is spinning with it. Sometimes you just are like, “Why right now, why me,” but you have to remember what is meant for you is for you. You’re supposed to go through bad days and you have to keep telling yourself everything is okay. So basically, this saying helped me, so I wanted to make it into a song so anyone else having a bad day can put this song on and feel comfort that it’s going to be okay. You can get through everything and remember it’s just a “Bad Day Not Life.”
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is that I get to leave an impact on the world every day. Being able to put a smile on people’s faces, let alone inspire them, is so honoring. Not only that, but also to make them feel empowered in themselves is a gift.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth T. Harv Eker
If you weren’t in music, what would you be up to right now?
If I wasn’t in music I would be acting full-time. I am an actress on the side as well though.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
You don’t have to make all of the mistakes, learn from other people
Do what you love to do and everything else will fall into place
Where there is bad there is good and where there is good there is bad
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
It will all make sense in the long run. I would catch myself when I was little asking why for so many different little things and I feel when you’re younger only so many questions can be answered and you have a general idea but it might not be what it seems. The thing is that it’s alright.
How would your best friend describe you?
Fast Paced
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Indefatigable of the kind unknown. The reason is that I never get bored or tired of what life has to offer and bring to me. I love what I do and my foot is always on the gas. I’m a super spontaneous individual and people always tell me “Emika one day you’re doing this, the other day you’re doing that, you do it all.” For me it’s the unknown part, the part that will keep you on your toes, the adrenaline rush. For me, it’s important that I’m being not only an artist but a good person and kind to others so no matter what comes my way I stay true to me my morals and who I am as a person.
What’s next for Emika Love in 2023?
I don’t want to say too much but let’s just say there is a first for everything… (cough, cough) album. Then I will be dropping my first Latin song as well as a few music videos.
What is your favorite healthy food?
My favorite healthy food would have to be green beans, but the really thin ones. They have to be cooked in the oven with some salt, pepper, and olive oil, and then sandwiches. I love sandwiches.
And your favorite cheat food?
My favorite cheat food is fried chicken and then dessert is chocolate chip cookies. Straight out of the oven. It gets me every time.
How would you explain your fashion style?
Let’s say the whole shebang and a little bit of everything.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Doing what you love and loving others. I say loving others because everyone goes through different things and sometimes evil cruel things can turn people cruel and evil. I believe that when you hit that point where you are fighting not only what you’re mad at but your ego it’s hard to really be happy.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
It would be Albert Einstein he was an all-around beast. The way he overcame and the way he thinks is just more than brilliant.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
I would go with my mom and my little sister to Greece because of the ancient history and overall a beautiful place from what I’ve seen.
Best advice ever given?
The sky is not even the limit.
Do you support any charity?
Yes, The My Parker Project
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Impacting the WORLD! Traveling to different countries teaching and sharing music and continuing to build my legacy.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
My favorite song to sing in the car is probably “Meet Me Halfway” by The Black Eyed Peas.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media is a hit or miss. I’ve met a lot of amazing creators, got to meet and travel to different places, and received many opportunities through social media. I say it’s a hit or miss though because there is of course some fraud and behind-closed-doors trolls. For me, it doesn’t bother me and my mental health or anything, but other people feel that weight on their mental health. I think it really depends on what you can tolerate and people should be more mindful of what they say.
