Hi Evanthia, please tell us a little about you?
Hi! Thanks so very much for having me today! I am originally from St. Louis, MO. I moved to Nashville, TN 2 years ago to pursue my music career. I was signed with my first talent agency when I was five years old. I knew from that moment that I wanted to be on stage performing my music. Fast forward to present time and I am working on that very career.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
I want my sound to show that I am real. If i have to give three words i would say vibey, relatable, vulnerable. My hope is that my sound can be loved by all.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
My musical influences would be Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift and Patty Griffin. They are so talented. I have always loved to sing. I knew that when I was younger, watching Disney channel, that this is what I wanted to do.
Do you play any instrument?
I play the guitar. I can also play the piano and ukulele. I think my next instrument I want to learn is the drums. I have always had an interest in them and I would love to play at some point in my shows.
Do you ever get nervous?
Of course I do. I think everyone gets nervous. I think it’s important to learn what helps channel that energy. I think being nervous is a good thing too. We try as artists to give our everything in our music and performances. So we definitely get nervous.
Tell us about your debut single “The Deep End?”
This song is a vulnerable love song. I got several ideas for the song from my journal. I wanted to make a love song be relatable or real. When you’re in a relationship, sometimes we develop stronger feelings for someone and we might question how the other person feels. This song is for the hopeless romantic. Longing for our partner to feel the same but not sure if it will ever get there.
How was working with chart-topping country songwriters Wyatt Durette and Tyler Filmore?
A true blessing. I knew that when I met both Wyatt and Tyler that we were going to vibe. The two of them are so extremely gifted. I was able to learn so much from them which is an added bonus for me. I’m so thankful to have written this with them.
Now tell us about the video and where was it filmed? How was the process?
The video was filmed in an empty pool. Set up was fairly simple as I wanted this visualizer to be more about the focus on the lyrics. The empty pool was a symbol of being in the deep end of love for someone. I chose empty for two reasons, one would see it as how empty I would feel if he didnt love me the same, and the other is to show the depth. I filmed it at night because I felt the lighting looked more intimate. I wanted the listeners to be able to create their story.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I love every part of what I do. I feel like each process makes the other one shine even more. You need all the moving parts. But if I had to choose, I would say hearing my listeners respond to me and tell me their stories and how they relate to my lyrics. This is the best feeling.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
To always be yourself, and that you are worth it. When I was younger, I was bullied for loving music and acting. My peers would tease me. I never understood them at that age. But now looking back I would still say be yourself, there is no one like you.
How would your best friend describe you?
I would probably say, funny, loyal, big hearted. Not many people know how much of a comedic side to me. I have always loved comedy shows. I make a lot of jokes that only my mom laughs at. I am a friend that will always remain loyal. I want to be that kind of friend that is always there for them. And I do have a big heart. I think my brother and parents are the same way. We love to love.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Steps. I feel like everything that I have experienced over the years has been because I took that step to change something, to heal, to learn, to push myself. Whether forward or backwards, we have to continue. I have a journal that I write in everyday. Who knows, maybe I will be an author someday.
As a popular artist you are followed by so many people, including young girls. How do you feel about that pressure of doing always the right thing, and encouraging people to follow their dreams?
I don’t think that I always do the right thing. I have made many mistakes. I am human. I do what I feel might be right but that doesnt mean it is for others. I have always tried to be the best version of myself. I love what I do. I will always encourage my followers to be themselves and to definitely follow their dreams.
What’s next for Evanthia Theodorou in 2023?
Well I am already back in the studio recording my next song. I can say that there are many more songs coming out. I will continue to write as well. There just might be another big thing coming too, can’t tell yet 🙂
What is your favorite healthy food?
I have a major love for avocados. I eat them probably three to four times a week. They basically go with everything and they are healthy.
And your favorite cheat food?
My all time favorite cheat food is bread. I have to have bread everyday or I don’t feel fulfilled. My yiayia says it’s because I’m Greek. I literally love it so much I have my own bread machine.
How would you explain your fashion style?
My fashion style is what I call urban country. I love western wear with a twist of an urban feel. My mom has been a huge part of my style as she puts a lot of my outfits together. We both love fashion so much. I could totally see myself having some sort of clothing line in the future.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Overall I feel happiness is when you are feeling joy, fulfilled and content with your current status. There are many things that help me reach happiness. For me, my family, friends and career give me happiness.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would have loved to meet Patsy Cline. She was such an icon. Her voice was angelic. She sang with vulnerability. I would have had so many questions to ask her, to learn from her. There is something so special and magical about the 60’s music.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
Maldives. This is not only a bucket list for me but also a dream. I would love to take a group of friends. That would be so fun. The pics and videos that I see all the time are just breathtaking.
Best advice ever given?
Honestly just to be myself. I feel like over the years I have met many people with great wisdom. The only thing that is always repeated to me is to just be me. It’s so simple, but means so much more. I am enough.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
In five years I want to be touring. I would love to have a couple albums out. I would also love to have shows outside of the U.S. I want to bring my music globally.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Dixieland Delight by Alabama. This song is one that my mom and I started listening to when we used to travel to LA. We still belt it out every time it’s played. I also listen to it before I perform. It brings me to a different place.
What do you think of Social Media?
Social media is a way of life now. I feel like it is almost impossible for a new artist or anyone that is new in the entertainment industry to not have social media. I love being able to connect with my fans around the world because it would be so difficult without social media.
