Hi Edie, please tell us a little about you?
I am 14 and live in LA. I’m an actress and singer/songwriter and I have 3 pit bulls – Bowie, Farrah & Daisy.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Indie, dreamy, pop.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Music has always been in my life. My Abuela is a Nicaraguan opera singer, and she is always singing to me. I started Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts when I was small and had the gift of working with singing coach Katie Riggs when I was super young.
Do you play any instrument?
I take guitar lessons and write music on a keyboard.
Tell us about your new single “In the Rain?”
I wrote the song on a night during a loud storm in LA after an argument with a loved one, processing the words, my responses, the fears projected onto me, the resentments, and trying to sit with those feelings when it’s someone you truly care about. I was trying to understand the emotions and hoping the song could provide some healing down the road.
What’s the story behind the song?
After a fight with someone close to me, I was trying to sit with the hurt and calm down the pain. I wrote ‘In the Rain’ while trying to process a painful moment of conflict with someone close to my heart.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Recently a mother in Europe who has a baby with a birthmark reached out to me about the song “Stain” about my birthmark. She shared her worries about her daughter’s future, potential limitations, physical or emotional, and wrote to me that “Stain” inspired her and gave her reassurance that her daughter could do anything she wanted to and follow her dreams! It brought me to tears.
How would your best friend describe you?
Silly. Nerdy. Empathetic. Obsessed with fashion.
How would you explain your fashion style?
Eclectic, theatrical, experimental.
Who are your fashion icons?
Stylist Claudia Cassina.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Self-love, unconditional love, creativity.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
My grandfather Allen who I am told was charismatic, hilarious, musical, and a genius. And Prince.
What would be the dream vacation, and who would you go with?
Paris with my family.
Best advice ever given?
Open up any closed doors, emotionally.
Do you support any charities?
The Vascular Birthmark Foundation. I am fortunate enough to serve as a global ambassador for the organization. A percentage of proceeds from my song “Stain” will be donated to VBF.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Making music and movies. Working on a show where actors with various physical differences are the stars!
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Alanis Morissette’s “Thank You,” Demi Lovato’s “Anyone” and Four Non Blonde’s “What’s Up.”
What’s next for Edie Yvonne in 2023?
This summer I’m in the studio weekly with my producers Cormac Liotta and Nicky Swedin. We are finishing up singles including “On Your Mind” and “Delusion.” I’m shooting a short film about mean girls and their minions and recording a song titled “Queen Bee” which will be featured in the short.
