Hi Taylor, please tell us a little about you?
My name is Taylor Mecca and I’m a 21 year old singer songwriter from Long Island, New York. I’ve been singing for as long as I could remember and found a passion for writing when I was about 15.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Cathartic, bittersweet, emotional
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Growing up, my mom always loved to sing. I remember her playing me Taylor Swift for the first time when I was about eight years old. From a very young age, I had my heart set in becoming an artist.
Tell us about your new single “growing up sucks?”
“growing up sucks” is about the realization and acceptance of growing older – and the price that comes along with it. The song captures the experience of wanting to turn back time and be a kid again and reminiscing on simpler times.
And now tell us about your EP “sidelines?”
My EP, “Sidelines,” is about coming of age and confronting the quarter-life crisis that young adults often go through. I’m watching my friends move on while I feel stuck in place. Growing up while holding on to my childhood. Falling in love, unsure if it’s real love. Feeling like you’re moving, but getting no where at all. All of these dual feelings make navigating the quarter-life crisis feel impossible, but deep down, I know it will challenge me to learn more about myself and take ownership of my own life.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Knowing that my music could potentially make people feel heard and less alone. These complex and difficult feelings that oftentimes we don’t know how to put in words are valid and real. I hope that my music offers a safe space for listeners to process their emotions and in return, remind them to be kind to themselves.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Stop worrying and overthinking so much! You’re going to end up right where you’re meant to be and on your own time.
How would your best friend describe you?
Energetic, very passionate about life and what I do, emotional, and caring!
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
“The World From My View” – I’m 4’10.
What’s next for Taylor Mecca in 2023?
New music!
What is your favorite healthy food?
Strawberries
And your favorite cheat food?
Anything super cheesy because I’m lactose intolerant.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Happiness is always fleeting, so i would say being grateful for the now and living in the present.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
If you couldn’t tell, I’m a Swiftie through and through, so Taylor Swift! She has been biggest inspiration as an artist and young woman.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
Italy looks so beautiful! I’d love to go there with my mom. She is my best friend and greatest supporter.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
This changes very frequently but currently its “In The Kitchen” by Reneé Rapp.
