Mark and Jonnie Houston, pioneers in immersive hospitality, along with Mitchell Hochberg of Lightstone, celebrated the opening of Level 8, a groundbreaking multidimensional concept, on Wednesday, September 13. This dining, drinking, and entertainment experience, which is revolutionizing Los Angeles’ dining and social scene, spans the full eighth story of the recently opened Moxy & AC Hotel Downtown LA and includes eight unique and captivating places.

Level 8 offers a completely unique venue in the city by giving some of LA’s greatest culinary talent a platform to develop cutting-edge chef-driven concepts. Chef Joshua Gil, who has received a Michelin star, takes diners to Maison Kasai’s French-Teppanyaki experience and to Mother of Pearl’s outdoor oyster and ceviche bar. Chef Ray Garcia, the Esquire Chef of the Year and a native of Los Angeles, is in charge of two food trucks: The Brown Sheep, which serves “authentically inauthentic” Mexican street food with a Los Angeles twist, and Qué Bárbaro, a South American live fire grill. Chef Hisae Stuck, a protégé of Joel Robuchon, is in charge of Lucky Mizu, which was inspired by the Japanese technique of cooking with water known as seiro mushi (steam) and shabu shabu (boil). Under the direction of Level 8 Executive Chef Richard Archuleta, the restaurant’s culinary concepts will be combined to present a diverse range of culinary experiences.
Mr. Wanderlust, a bustling piano bar and jazz lounge with a theatrical flair where visitors start their adventure, is the life and spirit of Level 8. The unusual travels of its namesake, a fictional adventurer whose collection of books, antiques, and drink recipes represent his varied interests, are reflected in Mr. Wanderlust. Golden Hour offers sweeping views of stunning sunsets and the Hollywood Hills from its rooftop pool deck, which is a Miami meets Copacabana design replete with a rotating carousel bar. As the sun sets, the pool deck becomes an outdoor lounge with DJs and live entertainment. Last but not least, Sinners y Santos displays the nightlife mastery of Mark & Jonnie Houston over a two-decade span by transporting partygoers to a deserted cathedral from the 19th century that they enter through a “confessional”.
