Hi Glowe, please tell us a little about yourself.
Hiya! My name is Glowe. I’m a singer, songwriter and actor from London. I make music for the good times and party people.
Describe your sound in three words.
FUN, honest and flirty.
Who influenced you, and why did you choose to make music?
My dad is probably my biggest influence to be a performer. He’s an actor and has always supported me to have a creative job. He’s my biggest fan.
Do you play any instruments?
I used to play cello and keys but in recent years my voice has become my main focus. One day I’ll get back to the instruments!
Do you ever get nervous?
I LOVE performing live, it’s probably my favourite bit about doing music. I don’t really get nervous on stage anymore, just super excited!
Tell us about your new single, “Mean Girls?”
I wrote Mean Girls as a tool for my sad days. Something I could put on full blast through the speakers and scream at the top of my lungs.
I love Mean Girls the original movie and took a lot of inspo from their girl-power. I also used a lot of the Y2K stying in the music video. Its my favourite video i’ve ever released.
What’s the story behind the song?
At the time I was feeling very resentful and angry towards the music industry. I felt my like my voice was not being heard. This song was made to reclaim my self confidence and celebrate being a woman.
When I was at school I was often labelled as ‘naughty’ or ‘too much’ when in reality I was just an outgoing young woman. Regina George would have never allowed people to drag her down, so neither will I.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Meeting and connecting with the fans. When you’re a smaller independent artist, you can really make a difference in someone else’s life. My ‘Glowesticks’ make me feel so loved and having their support makes it all worth it.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I actually only read fiction books. I love getting lost in a story. Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman holds the most special place in my heart.
What advice would you give to your younger self, and why?
Be kinder to yourself! I think we are the hardest on ourselves and have the most sympathy for other people. I spent a lot of time worrying about the future and if I was good enough to be an artist. The older I get, the more I realise that the journey is the best bit.
How would your best friend describe you?
Crazy. But luckily, she is 10x more crazy!
If you were a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
The silly little life of world-famous superstar.
What’s next for Glowe in 2024?
More music, more parties AND LOTS OF FUN. I’ve got an EP coming this summer and am planning lots of inclusive parties.
What is your favourite healthy food?
Avocado – ever since I was a baby I have been obsessed.
And your favourite cheat food?
Bacon. To go right ontop of the avocado!
