Check out our interview with Trap Metal Artist Sam Kallan who recently released his new single “Come Up.”
Hailing from Sacramento, California, Sam Kallan is a Gen Z artist making waves in the metal and rap genres. Growing up in a city that favored conformity, Sam’s journey was marked by the challenges of standing out, ultimately shaping a unique personality and a distinct style in both music and fashion. Influenced by heavyweights like Slipknot, Three 6 Mafia, Linkin Park, and Suicide Boys, Sam seamlessly fuses the intensity of metal with the lyrical prowess of rap, creating a genre-defying sound that captivates a new generation.

Hi Sam, please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Sam Kallan and I am from Sacramento, California. I grew up with influences from rock/punk, and hip-hop that heavily influenced the fusion in my sound today. I started off in an elementary school band where I continued to practice musical instruments and theory until I dropped out of high school due to a band of my own, and picked up a solo career that forced me to learn music production.
Describe your sound in three words.
I would describe my sound as dark, chaotic; and heavy.
Who influenced you, and why did you choose to make music?
Slipknot is truly my biggest inspiration. The way they present themselves and perform, shocks everyone who can hear or see them. Most of the performances I use on stage are based on this band. The reason I started making my own music was because I wanted to do what they do and bring that heaviness to anyone who would listen, just like they did.
Do you play any instruments?
I have learned mainly the saxophone, guitar/bass guitar, drums, piano, and violin
Do you ever get nervous?
I get nervous at times, but never on stage or while making a song. It’s more of an anxiety formed from worrying about what’s coming next.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I personally believe the most rewarding part of being a musician is the looks and energy you get from a crowd when you perform for them. The way music can make people feel is the reason I pursue this career.
What advice would you give to your younger self, and why?
In all honesty, I wish I would have started working as an individual artist sooner. The reason for that is simply because I would have known twice the amount I know now and the things I’ve learned along the way.
What’s next for Sam Kallan in 2024?
I have many collaborations planned with a plethora of artists, including my collective. On top of that, there is a concert in the works in Sacramento between April and June featuring my collective, Graveyard Cartel, and more artists. To close out my plans, more music drops than last year from me and my groups.
How would you explain your fashion style?
Simply put, I would describe my fashion style as a reflection of how I feel on the inside. A little chaos, mixed with a little metal, in all black, is the best way to explain.
