If you’re about to say “I do” at some point this year, you’re likely trying to find the wedding dress of your dreams. Even if you’re not getting married, it’s good to get some inspiration to eventually prepare for that very special day.
From the revival of Hollywood Glamour to a reinvention of the sleeve, we review some of this year’s top wedding dress trends.
Statement sleeves
The desire for an unconventional sleeve in everyday attire has been growing in popularity over the last few years, so it’s no surprise that wedding dresses have incorporated this trend. Statement sleeves can vary from draping off the shoulder to striking billows and delicate lace.
These dresses aren’t exclusive to winter weddings either; you can wear a simple dress with detachable puff-ball sleeves to transform the outfit into something more suited to the evening.
And don’t forget that your dress should complement your engagement ring. For example, if you have a timeless engagement ring with a brilliant-cut round diamond, dresses with sleeves and lacy fabric are the perfect combination.
Bulky bows
The bow has always been a cute addition to an outfit, even if just as an accessory. It’s therefore wonderful to see bows making their debut in wedding dress catwalks and magazines. The sky is the limit here, from subtle bejewelled embellishments to grandiose fabric bows at the back and petite bows on the sleeves.
There’s a lot of fun to be had with this trend and you can go as minimalist or as maximalist as you want. Take Justin Alexander Reverie’s classic line wedding dress with a spectacular back accented with a bow, for example. Compare this to Ese Azenabor’s wedding pantsuit that features a plunging neckline and larger-than-life bow and you can how much the trend can vary.
Hollywood Glamour
Your wedding day is meant to be the best day of your life with everybody looking in awe of you. Think of walking down the aisle like the red carpet, all eyes will be on you, so why wouldn’t you want to look like a Hollywood movie star?
This year, there’s a noticeable trend in wedding dress styles that celebrate feminine curves, with designs that highlight the delicate decolletage and cinch in the waist – also known as Hollywood Glamour. Not only will you feel empowered on your special day but you’ll be ready for the paparazzi (aka the wedding photographer).
Structured corsets
The corset has always been a trendy choice throughout major periods of history and is often worn alongside a pair of jeans. However, the Y2K fashion staple has made its way into bridalwear too.
In particular, dresses are now featuring exposed corsetry, enabling the boding and stitching in the bodice of the gown to be easily seen. Even if brides-to-be aren’t too keen on full-on corsets, there are still similar options, including fabrics with structure.
Combine these structured pieces of the wedding dress with some more fluid accessories and you can transform your wedding look to another level entirely.
