Hi Elijah! Please tell us a little bit about who you are.
Hi! I’m Elijah Woods. I’m a Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer who is passionate about storytelling through music.
How would you describe your sound in 3 words?
I would describe my sound as emotive, introspective, and authentic.
How did you first start making music?
I first started making music at 14 years old when I became interested in DJing. It was later on that I moved towards doing more singing and songwriting.
Do you play any instruments?
Yes! I play both guitar and piano.
Do you ever get nervous before performing live?
It depends. Most of the time, I’m more excited than anything else.
Tell us about your new single, “losing a friend.”What’s the story behind the song?
“losing a friend” reflects on the complexities of relationships and the pain of drifting apart from people you once held close. The song is deeply personal to me and felt very cathartic to write.
Can you walk us through the song’s creative process? How did the idea come to life?
The song initially came to life from a voice note I recorded on my phone. I’d woken up in the middle of the night and just started singing the chorus out of nowhere. I resisted the voice memo a few months later and the rest of the story poured out of me.
How do you usually start working on a new song? Do you begin with lyrics, melodies, or concepts?
More often than not, I start with melodies or concepts, then I find words after that based on the vowel shapes in the melody.
Now, can you tell us about your upcoming Asia tour and your gig supporting Niall Horan in Indonesia? That’s going to be amazing!
The Asia tour and supporting Niall Horan in Indonesia will be an incredible opportunity to connect with fans. I still can’t believe it’s really happening. I wrote two things in my journal on January 1st: #1. Sell out an international tour. #2. Open for Niall Horan. And both are happening! Manifestation is wild.
How do you manage your busy work schedule with your personal life?
It definitely requires patience and having supportive people around me. I’ve found the key is being fully immersed in whatever is going on in the moment and to not stress about the future too much.
Has there been a place that you’ve visited that you think has changed you in a particular way? ie. Motivated you, inspired you, or made you see things from a different perspective?
Traveling to different places constantly inspires me. I think being in nature helps me creatively, and specifically, the weather on the coast/by the ocean really fuels me.
Which countries or cities are still on your bucket list to perform in and/or just travel to?
I’m eager to perform anywhere people want to listen, haha!
What do you think is the most rewarding thing about being an artist?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist is being able to say things for the people that sometimes can’t.
What advice would you give to your younger self, and why?
I’d tell my younger self to trust the journey and embrace every experience. It will all work out, and likely not in the way you planned, so enjoy the ride.
What’s next for elijah woods in 2024?
In 2024, you can expect so much new music and a few special live announcements!
What is your own definition of happiness?
To me, happiness is finding contentment in the present moment and being passionate.
If you could meet someone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I’d love to meet Hans Zimmer. He’s an absolute idol of mine.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“No one can be you better than you”
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years?
I hope to be just as happy as I am today. And I hope to still be making music I love.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car or at karaoke?
“Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen is my go-to karaoke anthem.
