[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”24480″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Over the last two decades, Mexican actor Alberto Zeni has committed to explore varied artistic expressions allowing him to stand on international stages; though his initial incursion was in music where he had the opportunity to perform in front of 25 thousand people in his home town, Monterrey, and what gave him an entrance to the entertainment industry as well as launched him towards Broadway style musicals such as The Sound of Music and La Cage Aux Follies where he discovered and fell in love with the theater and with acting.
Some time later is recruited by the performing arts school in one of the two biggest TV stations in the country, TV Azteca which leads him to move to Mexico City. There he is given the opportunity to work and create content; he develops the program YaCayó with producer Memo Rosales that remained in the Top 5 of the nation wide ratings. Shortly after, due to his relentless curiosity, Alberto finds himself moving to Los Angeles in pursuit of expanding his acting knowledge which he attains and as soon as he sets foot back in Mexico, he is received with numerous work offers that take him to co-lead tv series like XY, La Revista, Hoy Soy Nadie and is part of the cast in Capadocia.
Alberto Zeni is currently preparing himself physically and doing research for his next film, and first English spoken lead role, titled Comienzo that will be shot early next 2018; he is also in negotiations to star in a television project back in Mexico City.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”24481″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Which is more important—training or talent?
Training will always be more important in this beautiful career of ours. Talent can only get you so far and in the moments when it doesn´t work, training will get you through. The way the Hollywood industry is run now needs actors to understand more and more about style, tone and genres. What talent can potentially give you is the calm that comes with confidence of believing in yourself that a lot of actors lack due to poor teachers and guides, or simply because of life. But always believe in yourself for there is no one else who can you what you do, the way you do it.
Who or what is your inspiration?
I draw inspiration from everything and everywhere. I spend a lot of my time observing others, people on the street, the way they walk and move, their facial expressions or the lack of them, how comfortable they are with a certain situation or how uncomfortable they are with a particular choice or circumstance. I have the tendency to follow people when walking if they have a peculiarity and I mimic their motions to create a personal library in my mind. So, inspiration is all around and all the time.
What other languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish, Italian, Hebrew, some French and now learning Arabic. I have discovered new languages teach me new behaviors. There is a change in my physicality and interactions when I am speaking a different language. It also allows me to expand my acting choices and discover new opportunities in my work.
What do you feel most proud of?
My resilience in continuing a path that is filled with hardships and negatives. I am proud that I have been able to see through all of that fog we actors have to endure in order to get to the green prairies of emotional bliss. We get an opportunity to be many different professions and personas over time and for that I am truly proud and grateful.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I have yet to travel to Europe. Some of my closest friend say that if I go I will stay there. I believe it. With so much history and folklore I believe I could learn a great deal about our history. I believe as an actor all history is beneficial to our art.
What teacher in school made the most impact on you and why?
One of my very first acting teachers once told me one this “Of everything and everyone you learn from, doubt” I took that to heart and translated it as pursuing my curiosity farther and deeper. Always keeping me on my toes and wits. Always looking for more knowledge and, as well, always expanding my horizons as an actor and as a human being.
What is your most recent work and what have you learnt from it?
This year I got to work with very interesting actors like Faran Tahir (IronMan, Elysium, Star Trek) in a thriller film, and I discovered the power of calm. And more recent I got to work with Sylvester Stallone in a commercial for a foreign market and there I learnt the power of power, discipline and determination. The best lesson to learn is there are many more lessons ahead of me.
What is the next step in your career?
I am preparing to star in a film called Comienzo, from director Cosmos Kiindarius, that will take me to a voyage of physical and psychological change to give life to a Border Patrol agent whom will discover the dissonance between his beliefs and his reality.
