Sassy, sarcastic, self-deprecating
Who is your biggest supporter?
My husband, he is the best. Most people think that it’s too hard to be in the same business as your spouse but it works so well for us because we have focuses in different areas. We are good at different things and really compliment each other well. He is always on my side and that’s the best feeling in the world. We also love doing improv shows together and making each other laugh.
How did you get started in the industry?
I got started through improv. I had a friend that had seen an improv show and insisted that I’d love it and I did. After seeing my first show, I signed up for classes that night. I still do improv shows every weekend that I’m in town.
What was your first acting role?
I was one of the Dogpatch wives in our high school production of Li’l Abner. I bought my own costume at Wal-Mart and my grandpa left at intermission because he thought it was over.
What is the best and worst part of being an actor?
The best part is getting to do what I love, do something different everyday, make people laugh and be creative. The worst part is auditioning, having to prove to people everyday that you are worthy and deserving of a job.
Best advice ever given?
To move around in the booth when you’re recording VO, it makes the biggest difference.
How did you find out about the hit FX/FXX animated adult series Archer? And can you tell us a little bit about your character Pam Poovey?
I found out about it before they made the pilot, I was recording DVD extra stuff for Frisky Dingo and they asked me if I wanted the role of Pam on this new show they were making for FX. I hadn’t even heard of FX yet, and had no idea Archer would be such a success. Pam started out as the Director of HR at the spy agency and was kinda just there to be the butt of people’s jokes but she quickly became one of the dirtiest, funniest, biggest badasses on the show.
What has been your most memorable experience about this project?
Meeting the cast and getting to know everyone. I was so nervous because everyone else was famous and I was just this improviser from Atlanta. I had been watching and admiring Chris Parnell on TV for years. Everyone was so welcoming and now we are all very good friends. I love them.
What other projects you have been part of?
I’ve been lucky to work on Aqua Teen Hunger Force for an episode as well as Your Pretty Face is going to Hell and make my own projects with my husband and our theatre, one is a web series called Hart of America. hartofamerica.com and we have a short film we are finishing post on called That Was Awesome.
Who is your favorite Actor/Actress? And why?
I love Lily Tomlin. She is one of the first women I saw in movies and on TV being funny and powerful and she is just as funny and powerful today.
3 things you can’t leave your house without?
Sunglasses, water (this is sounding very LA) and lip balm.
What music do you like?
I love just about anything really. One of my favorite bands is Modest Mouse.
Your idea of a perfect Sunday is?
Spending the day with my husband, sleep late, have brunch after not having to wait too long for a table, extra mimosas, hour long foot massages, nap, yummy dinner and Game of Thrones at our friend’s house.
How’s a normal day in your life?
Everyday is different but I always straighten my house no matter what, I’m a real neat freak. I usually have an audition or rehearsal or vo session, errands to run, I generally cook most of my meals myself so that takes time and I’m often at the theatre in the evenings or watching TV with my husband and dog. I also spend a lot of time out of town.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love salads. I really do love vegetables in a real way.
And your favorite cheat food?
I love pizza! I am Southern so biscuits, veggie samosas, carrot cake.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
I’d love to be the star of my own television show.
Do you support any charities?
I do PAWS Atlanta. It’s a no-kill animal shelter in Atlanta and The Giving Kitchen a charity that gives emergency grants to workers in the food service industry. I waited tables for many years.
