How did you get started?
I started doing hair mostly because it was my job to help get my sisters ready in the morning. It came really naturally to me and that where I started creating hairstyles. The 10 year age difference between my sisters and I allowed me to have full time models to try out any style my heart desired. It’s funny because my sisters hated getting there hair done when they were little but now I’m so busy they can barely get it done.
Who was your role model as a child?
My role model as a child was and still is my mother. I look up to her because she has accomplished so much even through adversity. As a young parent my mother showed us that with hard work and determination anything can be accomplished. My mother has her Masters in medicine and is charge practitioner on the ICU floor at Centinela Hospital.
What do you love most about being a hairstylist?
I love that I get to create a new altered state of feeling good. When my clients leave my chair they leave uplifted and that’s everything for me.
How did you start working with celebrities?
I first started working with celebrities when I first worked at a Beverly Hills salon. Through my relationships at the salon I was able to extend my services to high profile clientele. This is also where I meet one of my alltime favorite clients Ashley Greene.
Which celebrities have you personally worked with?
Oh man, all the boys from One Direction, Khloe Kardashian, Leighton Meester, Ashley Greene & the Hasselhoffs to name few.
What is the biggest challenge when styling celebrities’ hair?
I would say being able to conquer the nervousness. Working with celebrities is no easy task they are constantly being judged and scrutinized so the pressure to be perfect is real.
Most memorable shoot?
I would have to say a shoot with Kelly Rowland that I worked on with Kim Kimble on the set of “LA Hair”. This was my first time working with Kim but boy did we have fun.
How frequently do celebrities use hair extensions?
I would say all the time! I know when I’m styling hair whether it’s short or long I always like to incorporate hair to create a more drastic look.
What is the hottest hair trend at the moment?
Ombre in vivid colors like grey, deep purple, magenta, emerald green & my favorite Lavender.
Now tell us about the hit show “L.A. Hair”?
Well “LA Hair” is an amazingly funny show about celebrity hairstylists working in LA. It follows our lives as we navigate through the ups & downs of celebrity hairstyling. If you want to laugh and see the sometimes not so pretty aspect of Hollywood watch “LA Hair” Thursday’s 10pm/9c on We TV.
What is your #1 hair care tip?
Never use drug store quality hair care as it will coat and dry out your hair. A rule of thumb is to buy quality hair care products from a reputable beauty supply or salon. This is the only way to insure quality product for your hair.
How would you describe your style?
My style is effortless looking with a controlled messy finish. I never like anything to done or over coiffed unless the look needs it. I’ve completely mastered the messy look and realized that even though it’s messy it can still be challenging to create.
Who is your style icon?
I absolutely love what Khloe is rocking these days I think she looks sexy & expensive which I love.
As a busy hair stylist, what does a normal day look like for you?
A normal day starts at 7am I always have to have my coffee or I’m just not all there. Then I shower get myself dressed and head to set which usually lasts all day. There I’m creating wigs, doing clients behind the chair & getting the behind the scenes stuff of my businesses handled. After I wrap on set I’m usually racing to my next location while getting in some phone interview for a press outlet. Then I get to my location and start creating more hairstyles for my in salon clients. Somewhere in that whole day I manage to have about 3 more cups of coffee and mostly like throw something super unhealthy into my body like a muffin for sustenance. When I get home it’s probable around 10pm then I crash & do it all over again the next day. The not so glamorous side of beauty.
What has been your greatest moment as a hairstylist?
I would say being hired as a cast member of “LA Hair” and having my work featured in Vogue Italia.
Which hair product do you think every women should have?
HAIRSPRAY!!! This product can take away frizz, create body or fullness, revamp your curls or plan just make a style stay.
