3 words – driven, hardworking, and loyal.
Who was your role model as a child?
My parents 🙂
How did you get started in modeling?
I never thought I would model! A woman named Carla Pate, who was Dallas’ top model for 10 years, told me I should model and encouraged me to enter a model search. I was a semifinalist for Cosmo girl Magazine’s model search out of over 20,000 girls and ended up signing with one of Dallas’ top modeling agencies and then winning the Elle girl model search.
How has modeling changed your life?
Modeling has really been a blessing. It’s not something I ever thought I would do growing up but it’s given me so many incredible opportunities. I’ve gotten to travel and work with some of the most incredible photographers. It’s also made me learn more about health and take it more seriously than I would have if I was in another career. You learn a lot of beauty secrets and how to take care of yourself.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is getting to meet so many incredible people. Models, photographers, makeup artists. It’s fun to be part of someone’s vision and help bring that to life. I love the team aspect of it.
What’s your advice for the newer models?
My advice for newer models would be to learn as much as you can about the business. Modeling is a business and you have to know your look and how to brand yourself. Also, read your contracts before signing them! Negotiate. And don’t sign with the first agent that says “yes.” Be a little elusive. People want what they can’t have.
Who are some of your favorite models and designers?
My favorite model is Adriana Lima. She’s so stunning and she’s an insanely hard worker. I really admire her discipline. Sara Sampaio is gorgeous and seems like she would be so much fun to hang out with. She has that effortless thing going for her. My favorite designers are probably Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta.
What other modeling projects have you done?
Bebe, Clairol, Aeropostale, Adidas.
Biggest beauty inspiration? Why?
Kate Middleton. She’s so elegant.
How would you explain your fashion style and what items in your closet can you not be without.
My fashion style is very feminine. I love skirts and dresses but I also like adding a touch of edginess like a leather jacket or boots. I lived in Texas for a while so I love wearing boots with everything. Clothing wise, I could probably not live without boots and running shoes.
How do you keep fit?
I love martial arts and pilates. My friend and mentor Giulini Wever has taught me a lot about movement and how the body works so I especially love functional workouts with bands and ankle weights.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Hummus.
And your favorite cheat food?
You can’t go wrong with a good donut.
How is a normal day in your life?
Wake up at 6:15 am, drink hot water with lemon, pray, workout until 8 am. Come back to my place and shower. Go to my castings, find out I have a callback, drive to the other part of town for that. Go to rehearsal. Then at night if I don’t have acting class or a red carpet event, I go home and read. I’m currently reading “The Brothers Karamazov” and some business books. I love reading before bed. If I have a shoot all day, then I shoot and hopefully don’t have anything afterwards so I can watch a movie or read and drink tea. My schedule is always crazy, mostly because traffic in LA is ridiculous. I always have to drive all over the place for castings and meetings so I’m always really busy. I have to get up so early or I wouldn’t have time to work out.
What is your idea of a perfect Sunday?
A perfect Sunday would be sleeping in (which isn’t ever later than 7:45 for me) and waking up to go for a jog or a dance class. I would go get brunch at “The Griddle,” go to the farmers market, go to the beach to play volleyball and go to church. At night I’d love to go out to dinner or a movie with friends or stay in. Anything relaxing.
Best advice ever given?
My dad always told me to never quit and always give all you have in everything you do. It’s cliché but it’s great advice.
Name 3 things you can’t live without?
3 things I couldn’t live without? I guess water, food, and my wallet? The practical things.
Any plans for 2017 that you want to share with us?
2017 is going to be so busy! My January alone is already packed. I’m going to Sundance for the first time with my roommate so I’m excited for that! Otherwise, a lot of modeling. I’m thinking of going to New York for a couple months in the spring.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
5 years from now, having a contract with a big makeup company, acting on a sitcom, producing my own projects, and building an amazing brand.
Favorite song? Why?
“Better Days” by the Goo Goo Dolls. It’s such an uplifting song. I love a song that tells a story and gives you hope.
What do you think of Social Media?
I have a love/hate relationship with social media. Part of me would love to live somewhere where there was no wifi and I could enjoy the world but the other part of me is grateful for all the opportunities it has given me and the power to reach people directly that I would never have been able to reach by myself even ten years ago. It’s a game changer and it’s what you make of it. Would I rather be posting photos of Japanese cherry blossoms on my Instagram instead of my face all the time? Yes. But I’m in the modeling business so it’s a portfolio in a way.
