Hi Candace please tell us a little about you?
I grew up in Dayton, Ohio with an amazing family that instilled Midwestern values in me. Education was stressed which is why I attended the University of Dayton on a full academic scholarship and Northwestern University of Law. However, growing up I was always involved in the performing arts, studying at the Dayton Playhouse. My career in entertainment didn’t take off until I won the title of Miss Ohio USA and at that time I had begun life coaching while practicing law. Although I found my life and love coaching rewarding, I decided to take a leap of faith and relocate to Los Angeles to pursue my passion for performing. I was able to accomplish a successful TV and film career, appearing on HBO’s “Entourage”, CBS’s “Hawaii Five-0”, End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal and Gimme Shelter with Rosario Dawson.
What’s you’re background?
My biggest accomplishment thus far in my acting career is the film “My Father, Die”, which will be released in theaters the end of the year. I play the heroine Nana of this gritty, action thriller set in the South. It was an incredible experience to play a Black woman with many layers. This role was the most challenging experience of my life because of the dark material, emotional commitment, stunts and set conditions. I did many of my own stunts and luckily already had experience with firearms from growing up in the South.
You are part of the hit WE TV’s show “Million Dollar Matchmaker”, tell us about that?
While acting and producing in LA, I have been able to maintain my coaching clients, which led me to work with Patti Stanger as a matchmaker. As a life coach, the love lives of my clients has always been a priority. So it was also natural for me to begin matching clients because of my various networks. Since working with Patti, I have expanded my knowledge in many areas of matchmaking and compatibility. I earned Patti’s trust which led to me taking the lead in the office in Southern California where our new show “Million Dollar Matchmaker” is filmed.
What is different from this show to your formerly Bravo Tv show?
I am so stoked for everyone to see the new show because it has a fresh format and more spontaneity. Clients are sequestered and subjected to love lessons which allow for the breakthrough they truly need to find love. The entertainment value of the new show skyrockets! This is must-see summer TV without a doubt. This season is really fun, sexy, dramatic and unexpected. There is no script because the drama does not need to be manufactured at all, trust me.
Any future plans you want to share with us?
I recently relocated to Honolulu to be with my love who happens to be born and raised in Hawaii. I am in love with him, Hawaii’s culture and the people. There is so much coming up in my life which I am extremely grateful for. I continue to work with Patti as a matchmaker, coach clients, write and act. I also have a line of T-shirts coming out that promote female empowerment with a portion of proceeds going to the Downtown Women’s Center where I volunteer.
