When did you start, and when did you know this was the life for you?
I’ve been singing and playing music since I was a kid. My parents made me take piano lessons from when I was 4 until I was 12, which is when I switched to the guitar.
I remember it was around the time in high school that I had to figure what I wanted to pursue after I graduated, and I borrowed a Charles Mingus album from the library. I popped the cd in and it had a bonus track at the end, called “A Colloquial Dream (Scenes in the City)”. It’s sort of a fictionalized autobiography, but it’s basically Mingus talking about his relationship with music, and I remember listening to the song and thinking to myself, this is what I want to do; I can’t do anything else.
What kind of music did you grow up listening to and what inspired you?
I was always trying to listen to whatever my older sister was listening to, so I grew up with a lot of 90s rnb and rap music. Things like K-Ci & JoJo, Usher, TLC, Bone Thugz, D’Angelo, Outkast. I’d even say church had a big thing to do with inspiring me, despite whatever weird baggage that might have come with it. There was just a very blatant display of the power of music. Seeing choirs and people crying and going wild in church definitely made an impact on me. It really promoted the importance of music in peoples’ lives.

What kind of music do you listen on daily basis?
Recently, a lot of new age and ambient music, jazz, and a lot of mid- to late-90s Prince. It’s always changing, though.
What is next for you?
I just finished a full length album that I’m hoping to share soon.
How would you describe your style?
It’s just me, however I’m feeling.
You are about to perform on the next Red Bull Sound Select show which is Classixx Album Release Show? Tell us about it.
It was a wonderful time! Very fun helping the boys with some vocals.

Tailor my own clothes and listen to music.
