Hi Sadie, please tell us a little about you?
Of course! My name is Sadie Mae O’Sullivan. I am 10 years old and live in New Jersey. I love to perform! Singing, dancing, baton twirling and acting are my favorite things in the world.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Happy! Determined! Kind ❤️
How did you get started into dancing?
My nicu doctor actually suggested it to my mom. I was born with multiple birth defects and an incurable medical condition called hypotonia that affects my muscle strength. I first became a baton twirler and then added dance into my life to help me with my baton twirling and then kept adding more and more dance because I fell in love with the art of dance!
How has this changed your life?
The whole experience has made me remember to stay true to who I am and to never give up!
Any advice for aspiring dancers?
Dance for yourself! You are good enough.
What do you love most about dancing?
I love, love, love the costumes and character pieces where I can do my best acting. I really just love to perform.
What type of dance do you like best?
Musical Theater, Jazz and Hip Hop!
How challenging and demanding was doing the competition?
Really challenging! I had to learn the entire routine in a couple of hours. I also have never danced on a team before so that was a new experience for me. Lastly there are some things that are harder for me in dance, like jumps and tumbling because of my muscle condition so I just kept working and trying my best in any and all situations that were thrown my way.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far in this business?
Don’t worry about what people say, always be yourself and do what you love. Be a person that you want someone to look up to.
How would your best friend describe you?
My best friend Ryan says i’m funny, kind and i make up the best secret handshakes.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Hold my Baton
I feel like in my life I have heard a lot of cants. Some doctors told my mom that I wouldn’t be able to walk “normally” but that didn’t stop me from becoming a national champion baton twirler. I’ve also been referred to as “just a twirler” and not a dancer, but now here I am working on a national broadway tour with no baton in my hand. In my book, I would tell my story of being born with disabilities but never believing that would stop me from reaching my dreams. I still have dreams that I know I will reach regardless of how many cants I hear and I hope my book would help others believe in themselves and inspire them to never ever give up on their dreams.
What’s next for Sadie O’Sullivan in the last months of 2021?
A National Tour! I’m so excited to be on a tour and I hope I can release what broadway tour im on soon. It’s a dream come true.
What is your favorite food?
I’m a vegetarian! My favorite food is any and all fruit and vegetables. I also love soup!
What is your own definition of happiness?
For me happiness is appreciating everything that happens in your life, taking it and doing good with it.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would like to meet all of my great grandparents. I have heard many stories about them and I would love to be able to talk with all of them.
Best advice ever given?
Never be ashamed of your story, use it to inspire others.
Do you support any charity?
I do! Dancing Dreams NY!
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself performing! I would love to be on Broadway and tv series regular!
Favorite song? Why?
I love sooo much music! I can’t pick one song, some of my favorite artists are Pentatonix, Lady Gaga, Adele, Shawn Mendes, Kristin Chenoweth, Josh Groban and Billy Gilman.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media is a place that we can all make the world a better place on if we are conscious about what we post. Spread love, acceptance, positivity and inspiration ❤️
