Hi Denise, please tell us a little about you?
I am a Connecticut native currently living in Los Angeles. I am Vegan, love to go on hikes all over SoCal and am the proud Fur-Mom of 4 wonderful pets.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Creative. Spiritual. Curious.
How did you get started into acting?
From theater classes in my hometown, to improv classes in NYC, to Scene Study in LA, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t involved in the arts.
How do you prepare for a role?
Lots and lots of research! Whether it’s binge watching a show by the Director or Writer, or researching articles in relation to my character breakdown, I definitely take the time to thoroughly look into anything that will help me develop the character.
And about your role as Reina Vasquez?
I play Maddie’s Training Officer, “Reina Vasquez” on Bosch: Legacy, which will stream on IMDbTV and Amazon. It was really fun bringing this no nonsense character to life, and I am really excited for people to see how our story unfolds.
What other projects have you been part of?
I am best known for my work on Mayans MC where I played “Alicia” in season 2. I was previously on “The Good Place” on NBC, where I played “Andie.” Before that, I had co-star roles on Criminal Minds, Crazy Ex Girlfriend and General Hospital to name a few.
What kind of roles do you like or would like to play and why?
I love gritty dark characters. That’s where my baseline lives. Give me dark humor and I am one happy lady.
What’s your advice for the newer actors?
Have patience and faith.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far in this business?
That I am enough. For so long I was playing it wrong. I was just going out there and auditioning while trying to be someone I wasn’t. Once I brought myself to the table with all my flaws and quirks, that’s when I began to book.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss
What’s next for Denise G. Sanchez in 2022?
The rest is still unwritten…
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love a good hearty salad paired with a fruit smoothie. This combo literally makes me feel like I can take on anything that comes my way.
And your favorite cheat food?
I am a sucker for chips. I can spend an entire day just snacking on pretzels and hummus, veggie sticks, and sweet chili Doritos but by far my favorite is Original Sun chips.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I’ve always loved being outdoors, but once Covid happened I really began discovering local parks and hiking trails in my area. Happiness to me means being surrounded by nature in the company of people that I love.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Selena Quintanilla Perez. I was and continue to be a huge fan of her work and legacy. Her music inspired me at a young age, and I vividly remember watching her perform for the first time and feeling this immense rush. From that moment on, I knew I was meant to be in entertainment. I would love to tell her that she has been my driving force of inspiration and determination. When I have moments of self pity or defeat, I always ask myself, “What would Selena do?”
Best advice ever given?
If the answer is no, you’re asking the wrong person.
Favorite song? Why?
“High Hopes” by Panic! At The Disco. It’s such a feel good song and it gets me so hyped. I listen to it before every producer’s session.
What do you think of Social Media?
It’s fun and can be useful, but proceed with caution.
