Hi, Maizy! Please tell us a little bit about you!
I’m a 14 year old singer, songwriter, and aspiring actress! I love to do creative makeup looks in my spare time, as well! I love my animals, and I enjoy making music!
Describe yourself in three words
Kinda shy, artistic
How did you get started in the business?
I have been singing forever. I started writing music when I was 11, but really took writing seriously around age 13. I’ve done four originals so far, but I’ve written many songs I hope to produce soon.
How has this changed your life?
I’ve met some cool people and the whole experience of making music is just so fun
Describe your sound in three words
Maybe pop/alternative
Who influenced you, and why did you start to make music?
I really started making music because it’s in my family’s roots, it came so naturally to me because I grew up in a musical household, drumsets and guitars and amps and pianos everywhere. I just got my first electric guitar for my 14th birthday.
Do you play any instruments?
I do! Kind of. I’m learning piano and I take guitar lessons as well!
Do you get nervous?
Sometimes! My dog, Billie, is really sweet though so if I’m anxious I go to him lol
Tell us about your new single, I’m Not Sorry!
I’m Not Sorry, my original single is about how when you look back at your past, you will have unpleasant memories. Many are sorry for mistakes they’ve made, and while it is good to have remorse for certain things, you can’t be sorry for other people’s mistakes. I recorded and mixed and mastered it in my bedroom in a little over 2 hours, so that was fun!
What is most rewarding about making music?
It’s always a nice reward to receive positive feedback on my music!
Onto the acting side, what projects have you been involved in?
I’ve been in several plays! I was in a performing arts theatre and played Bruce the Shark in Finding Nemo, and I was involved in my church’s annual Christmas play for a few years in a row!
What would be a role you’d love to play?
Hm, maybe anything from Cobra Kai or Stranger Things.
What book should entrepreneurs read?
I think ANYONE should read “finally” by Wendy Mass. I have bought so many copies of this book, and I’ve been reading it since I was 10! It never gets old, it’s about the coming of “age” of a 12 year old girl, and it’s hilarious!
What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learned?
The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that people will do anything to get their way, even if that means being morally incorrect, so you have to remain a good person and not lose yourself!
How would your best friend describe you?
My best friend would describe me as very goofy.
If there was a book about you, what would it be called, and why?
The title of the book about me would totally just be Maizy Jane, because there’s really nothing else that would sum it up!
What’s next for Maizy Jane in 2021?
Music! I’m not sure what else, but we’ll see!
What’s your favorite healthy food?
I love dried strawberries
What’s your favorite cheat food?
I really like macarons
Describe your fashion style.
Take Brandy Melville and add like chains and a hint of skater fashion. That’s me!
What’s your definition of happiness?
My definition of happiness is being content with where you are and not letting your worries affect you.
Who would you like to meet?
I would love to meet Billie Eilish. She has a very happy personality and unique ways of thinking, so talking with her would be very interesting. Avril Lavigne would be so fun to skate with!
Best piece of advice ever given?
My mom says that real friends will build you up, and they want to see you succeed, and I think that’s really good advice. If somebody wants you to fail, they aren’t a real friend!
Do you support any charities?
I support anyone or any charity assisting animals and those in need, but I think that Marine Care Charities are very important.
Where do you see yourself five years down the road?
Five years from now, I would love to be on stage performing, with a band!
What’s your favorite song?
I have way too many “favorite songs”, but I love Good Old Days by Kesha, Complicated by Avril Lavigne, and Want U Back by Cher Lloyd. 2000s music is really nostalgic even though I was born in ‘07, and I like to hear it a lot more than current music.
Opinions on Social Media?
I don’t like it. Some platforms can be fun, but I actually deleted TikTok because I’d rather be hangin with the fam instead of scrolling through my for you page; it’s addictive.
