Hi Lauren, please tell us a little about you?
I was born and raised in New Jersey, right outside of Philadelphia. I sing and write country music, as well as act and model. I love to go to the beach, travel, and listen to podcasts and music.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Innovative, Authentic, & Visionary
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get into the industry?
Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I was involved in a variety of performance-based activities, including dance, piano, and singing lessons, school plays, and choirs, and attended a musical theatre summer camp at Stagedoor Manor. While in high school, I was offered a contract with a talent agency, primarily for modeling and acting. It was during this time that I discovered my unwavering passion for performing, which continues to be a driving force in my life. While in college, I started playing at coffee houses and learning how to play guitar, and since 2021 have been releasing original music!
How has this changed your life?
It has been great to be able to pursue my dreams and be in control as an independent artist. I’ve had so many opportunities that are “pinch me” moments!
Describe your sound in 3 words.
Relatable, Empowering, and Energetic
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I listen to a ton of genres, but I was undoubtedly influenced by Taylor Swift when I was a teenager to become an artist and songwriter myself.
Do you play any instruments?
I can play guitar and piano- but am not an expert at either! I prefer someone else to accompany me while I sing.
Do you ever get nervous?
Not really! Since I started performing at a young age I became familiar with the stage.
Tell us about your new single “Another Shot?”
Another Shot was written by myself and Ava Suppelsa- it’s an upbeat pop-country song about giving someone “Another Shot”!
What’s the story behind the song?
The song is set in a bar, where two exes spot each other across the room. They reminisce and take “Another Shot”.
And about the success of your previous singles “Weak Days” and “Match?”
I’ve loved receiving messages from people who have heard both, it makes me so happy. Another Shot is definitely different from both of these so I’m excited to see the reaction! Weak Days has charted in a few countries on iTunes which has been awesome to see.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Definitely the messages! I wake up to messages every day from people across the world which is super inspiring to keep releasing music.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest- the message is about learning how to break down the walls you make yourself to move forward.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Take a chance on yourself and go for it. There’s nothing wrong with learning and growing along the way. If you always wait until you’re “ready”- you never will be!
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Trust your heart and trust God. I definitely have had times when I’ve listened to others more than myself and would guide my younger self to trust my intuition.
How would your best friend describe you?
She’d probably describe me as both silly and determined. We always make each other laugh at the smallest things but share our goals and plans for the future.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Another Lifetime- I enjoy manifesting, the stars, and dreaming, and I like imagining life in a parallel universe where other things happen. And that might be the title of something else…
What’s next for Lauren O’Brien in 2023?
Continuing to release music, tour, meet new people, and travel to new places.
What is your favorite healthy food?
A smoothie with tropical fruits.
And your favorite cheat food?
Water Ice- if you don’t know what that is, you have to try it in NJ/Philly!
How would you explain your fashion style?
I love denim, cowboy boots, and fun dresses and skirts.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Living aligned with my heart, values, and mission. Spending time with friends and family and getting to have new experiences.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
John Mayer! I am such a huge fan of his music.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
If I could fly all my family and friends to Costa Rica to relax and go on adventures I would!
Best advice ever given?
My parents and grandparents always advised me that I could achieve my dreams, which I will pass on to my children.
Do you support any charity?
I support many charities, but The B+ Foundation and JDRF are close to my heart.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I’d love to have a few albums out 5 years from now and be able to travel around the world to connect over music.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Defying Gravity from Wicked!
What do you think of Social Media?
It has its pros and cons- I definitely think it’s important to monitor how much time is spent on it. At the same time, it is a great tool for the discovery of information and thought sharing.
